practical application (mathematics)
Despite the academic year coming to a close, the practical application of learning never stops here at GIS. The children in Grade 1 have been applying the mathematical understanding they have developed over the year to plan their own class party. With an imagined budget of 300 AED per group, the young learners were tasked with applying their addition, subtraction, and multiplication skills by creating a shopping list for next week's class party. In this way, the children are applying their learning in a fun and exciting way, relevant to their lives. Have a look through the other pictures from the week, and see if you can figure out what mathematical concepts are being explored in practical ways this week!

Our school had our annual step-up day, a special morning where students got a preview of the next grade level. Each class spent time visiting areas where they'll learn next year, getting a feel for what's coming up. Teachers planned a series of engaging activities to introduce the new academic and social landscapes. It was a lively morning filled with energy and excitement as students got a glimpse of next year's subjects and potential classmates. By the end of the session, every student left energized and eager about advancing to the next grade. This event plays a key role in smoothing transitions and building enthusiasm for the new academic year ahead.
In a few weeks, Grade 5 will have a series of step-up days where they will visit the MYP, so keep an eye out for that.
Student Life
Student Leadership workshop
This week student leaders participated in a student leadership workshop, where students from both primary and secondary collaborated to reflect on this academic year’s events as well as looking forward to what leadership might look like next year.
Students had the chance to listen to guest speakers about their experience as leaders and what it means to be an effective leader.
We were then able to celebrate all of our student leaders contribution to student life with a certificate presentation, movie and pizza party.
We are immensely proud of what our leaders achieved this year, how they’ve progressed and are excited to see what the future holds for them all!
Parents have all received a notification to sign up for the Toddle platform. This is an exciting enhancement to our parent communication, and this year you will receive weekly updates through the Toddle platform.
This IB affiliated platform will offer opportunities for parents to remain up to date with their child's academic progress.
The below class pages will host resources for parents and will no longer have weekly messages. All information will be sent through Toddle, so please inform your class teacher if you have any trouble registering.
