Week Thirty Four - June 20th, 2025
Dear Parents & Guardians
It’s been another vibrant week of learning, celebration, and stepping boldly into “what’s next” for our students.
Secondary Arts Week is in full swing, bringing colour, creativity, and talent to the forefront. Our Music Morning performances have been a joyful way to start each day, and the Grade 9 Drama presentation of Hoodie was both powerful and thought-provoking. With more outstanding showcases to come (keep an eye out for the much anticipated Bobble Head parade), we’re proud to see the arts continue to thrive across our school. Thank you to Ms Emma, Ms Jessica, Ms Melanie, Mr Rick, Ms Verity, Ms Laura and Ms Irasa for their amazing creativity.
This week also saw our annual Sports Awards Evening, where we celebrated the achievements, dedication, and team spirit of our many student athletes. Congratulations to all those who were recognised, you continue to inspire us with your drive and sportsmanship. In case you missed it, GIS was announced the overall points winner of the inaugural GAAC competition beating schools across the region in multiple sports! This is a phenomenal achievement for our school and a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students and coaches. Thank you to all, especially Mr Jason for his passion and hardwork in boosting the profile of sports in GIS.
A special shout-out goes to Grade 10, who officially wrapped up their exams this week and have now stepped into their Grade 11 classes, getting their first real taste of the DP and CP pathways. This is an exciting and important transition, and we’re confident they’ll rise to the challenge with maturity and purpose.
In what was a very meaningful gesture of gratitude for the people who quietly keep our school running smoothly every single day, our very dedicated StuELT hosted a heartfelt Appreciation Lunch to recognise and thank our incredible support staff for their dedication, kindness, and behind-the-scenes impact. Thank you to all involved for continuing to show the excellent community spirit at GIS.
And to round off the week, today’s Grade 9 Innovation Challenge Exhibition showcased the creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking that define our learners. This is a wonderful example of a student-led initiative, the brainchild of Ved (G10) who is coordinating and overseeing the challenge for the second year running. The energy and ingenuity on display were a clear reminder of the bright future ahead. Congratulations everyone.
With a week and a half left in the academic year, we look forward to more celebrations in the coming days.
Kind regards
Amanda Murphy
