Week Thirty Three - June 7th, 2024
Dear Parents & Guardians
In recent weeks we have commenced our Grade 5 to Grade 6 Transition programme in preparation for them moving into the MYP in August. To date, Grade 5 students have participated in workshops on how they feel about change, they have met the Secondary wellbeing counselor and they viewed a video on the life of an MYP student. However, this week, I had the pleasure of witnessing our Grade 6 'Panel of Experts’ lead an assembly with the Grade 5 students. They tackled such topics as how to follow the timetable, what students can do at lunch, what the ‘different’ subjects are, the difference between Homeroom in Grade 5 and what it means in Grade 6, and the benefit of having multiple teachers and classrooms. To see the confidence that the Grade 6 students spoke to their younger peers was evidence of the great work happening in Grade 6. On that note, I would like to acknowledge Mr Sean as Grade Level Leader, Ms Alisha for the massive amount of work put into our Transition Programme, Ms Sandy as MYP Coordinator and the Grade 5 Team for the wonderfully collaborative nature of this programme.
We fully understand that the transition to Grade 6 can also be an anxious time for parents. We know that parents have a lot of questions and interest in knowing more about Secondary. Therefore, this coming Wednesday and Thursday we will host Grade 5 parents for the Parent Orientation Day. Parents have been invited to take a tour of the secondary building, listen to some key speakers, learn more about ManageBac, and chat to our counselor. We look forward to welcoming you next week.
In amongst all of this, our Grade 11 students sat some of their exams this week. I would like to congratulate the group for the mature way they have approached their assessments and the effort they are putting into their study. With only two full terms left before they sit the global IB examinations, every possible practice, every lesson, counts! Good luck Grade 11’s for the final week of papers coming up.
Thank you to all Grade 11 parents who attended the ConnectED this week hosted by Ms Burcu and Mr Ged. What lies ahead in these remaining two terms for Grade 11 students is very important and it is vital that parents are aware. Should you have missed the session, you will find the presentation in the Parent ConnectED link below.
Have a wonderful week ahead.
Kind regards
Amanda Murphy
