Week Twenty Five - March 22nd, 2024
Dear Parents,
It was a pleasure to attend our DP Art Exhibition this week. Our talented students have spent a long time on their displays and explanations, guided initially by Ms Melanie and then very much by Ms Laura. It is always a special occasion, and these students did not let us down with their creativity. Well done to all!
Another very special annual event which took place this week at the Fairmont Hotel was the GIS Iftar. I would like to thank Ms Nomah, Ms Rasha and Ms Sarah for all their hard work in organizing this. Many GIS families joined in the fun and the children had fun circulating with quizzes and prizes. It was a lovely atmosphere and so interesting to learn more about Islamic culture.
Ms Helen was busy with her ‘Family First’ frame this week and managed to capture some lovely Mother’s Day photos of our families entering the school at the beginning of the day. We even caught some grandparents too! GIS is a very family-oriented school and it is a pleasure to see different generations supporting their children so well.
Another way our families support their children is by connecting with the school, either online or in person. It was therefore a pleasure to see so many parental attendees this week at the presentation by guest Ms Amarylis Harris from Reverse Psychology on ‘Effective Strategies to Empower Your Children with Bravery and Resilience.’ In our IB school, resilience is underlined through the culture in the classroom and the environment, which allows for the pursuit of curiosity and risk-taking, learning through failure, and improving within safe parameters, not a ‘content-memorise-test’ model. This was reinforced by Ms Harris and we are grateful for her sensible strategies which align with our school culture.
We often talk about the GIS community and it was wonderful to be able to recognize our loyal and dedicated support staff on Friday. Our students from primary and secondary, together with Ms Nomah and Ms Rasha, organized an amazing donation drive of food items that were shared with each and every member of our support staff. These staff, including cleaners, catering crew, technicians, security, bus drivers and guardians, do so much to keep our children safe and healthy. Our huge thanks and gratitude to them all and we sincerely hope that they enjoy these Ramadan donations.
Finally, may I wish you all a safe, healthy and refreshing spring break and I look forward to welcoming our students back on 15th April.
Kindest regards,
Family First
This week, our community prioritized family above all else, as we gathered for our community Iftar and celebrated Mother's Day with love and care. These moments emphasise the significance of family ties and the invaluable role woman play in our lives.
