Week Twenty Four - March 21st, 2025
Dear Parents & Guardians,
This week, we shone a spotlight on the importance of inclusivity and understanding by celebrating Neurodiversity Week. Through engaging activities, awareness sessions, and classroom discussions, students explored the unique strengths and perspectives of individuals with diverse learning profiles. The conversations sparked empathy, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for the different ways we all think and learn. I would like to thank the students and staff who were instrumental in the planning and coordination of this week.I
On Thursday we embraced Semaine de la Francophonie, a celebration of the French language and the rich diversity of cultures that speak it. A group of Grade 11 students took the lead in organizing engaging lunchtime activities, bringing energy and creativity to the celebrations. Throughout the week, students participated in French-themed activities that showcased their linguistic talents and global awareness.
This week, we welcomed our Grade 5 students to a special transition assembly, designed to help them prepare for the exciting journey ahead as they move into Grade 6. Students had the opportunity to hear from Middle School leaders, learn more about life in Secondary, and ask questions about what to expect. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and curiosity as they took this important step towards the next chapter of their learning journey at GIS!
With the spirit of Ramadan in full swing, the GIS community once again came together for our annual Ramadan Food Drive, reflecting our shared values of generosity and gratitude. Thanks to the kindness of our students and families, we were able to assemble essential food packs for our incredible support staff, whose hard work keeps our school running smoothly every day. The highlight of the week was a wonderful assembly, where these carefully prepared packs were distributed, allowing us to personally thank our support staff for all that they do. It was a truly heartwarming moment, showcasing the compassion and unity that define GIS.
As we wrap up a busy and fulfilling term, we have a few important updates for our families. Scholarship applications are now open, offering an exciting opportunity for eligible students to be recognised for their achievements in Arts, Academics, Sports or Service. We invite you to submit your application soon.
Later today, Term Two reports will be available, offering valuable insights into your child’s progress so far this year. We encourage you to take the time to sit with your son or daughter to review their achievements, celebrate their successes, and reflect on areas for growth. Meaningful conversations about their efforts can help set goals for the remainder of the year. Please check the GEMS Connect app after 4pm to view the Term Two reports.
And finally, as we head into Spring Break and the joyous celebration of Eid, we extend our warmest wishes to all our students and families. May this special time be filled with happiness, togetherness, and the spirit of generosity that defines Eid. We hope you enjoy the festivities with loved ones. We look forward to welcoming everyone back when school returns on April 7th!
Thank you for a wonderful term, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for the final stretch of the academic year!
Kind regards
Amanda Murphy
