As part of this year’s WWW offerings, a group of 10 courageous students spent the week living the life of a chef and developing their culinary skills at SCAFA Dubai.
During the week, Chef Alisha took the students through their paces teaching them skills and techniques enabling the students to create 3 course meals, which they thoroughly enjoyed each day!
To end a busy week, the students made a visit to Oakfield Early Learning Centre in JLT, where they had the opportunity to pass on their chef skills in a series of activities designed for the nursery children.
I am sure the students will agree that it was a very challenging but rewarding week!
Grades 6-12
On Wednesday, we joyfully celebrated Mother Tongue Day with a range of engaging activities designed to inspire reflection on the significance of our mother tongues. Students enthusiastically shared their favorite words, while teachers actively participated in the discussions. As part of the festivities, students were challenged to explore the diverse languages spoken at GIS, whether as a first, second, third, or even fourth language! Additionally, they were encouraged to participate in the Duolingo challenge, earning valuable points for their House until the end of the school year. We extend this invitation to parents as well, as engaging in such activities, even for just 5 minutes at home, fosters bonding and reinforces the learning experiences from school. The highlight of the day was Lingo Pardy, where students eagerly competed to uncover the mystery of Cryptophasia, a fascinating phenomenon where twins develop a unique language only they can understand. In the course of the game, students also discovered some intriguing facts: 2400 languages are currently at risk of extinction, the longest alphabet contains 73 letters, while the shortest one comprises only 11, and approximately 200 fake languages, such as Klingon, have been invented.
