Week Twenty One - February 23rd, 2024
Dear Parents,
I hope that you are all well and enjoyed the midterm break with your families. It has been such a pleasure to welcome our students back this week.
My thanks to Ms Tania and the Language Acquisition team for the World Mother Tongue Day events in the secondary school on Wednesday this week. In IB schools, we value languages and see their importance culturally, communicatively and cognitively. Therefore, to see the students engaging in linguistic games and challenges, and supporting their friends, was a pleasure.
Ms Rasha offered a ConnectEd this week on Moral Education with Early Years parents. The moral education journey starts young, with our families, and we thank Ms Rasha for exploring the ‘What, Why and How’, with positive techniques in the classroom and home that ‘enrich and uplist the children’s lives and evoke a sense of peace and love.’
I am delighted that the enhancements to our facilities continue and students will soon have use of wonderful tennis courts that have transformed a rooftop area. We have partnered with Rackets Academy and are sure that many students will benefit.
As I mentioned before, if any parent would like to have a tour of our facilities, to see highlights such as the Space Lab (soon to be launched), the Primary Hub, the new courts, and also how the sports center is progressing, please do contact our Parent Relations Executive, Ms Helen Gornall, on pre_gis@gemsedu.com. It would be a pleasure to see you.
With regard to next year, please can I encourage you to make sure of your child’s place through re-enrolment as soon as possible? Some year groups are filling fast. Related to this, I am delighted to say that next year’s teacher turnover is looking extremely low, below 10% at present, and will be one of the lowest in international schools in Dubai.
I would like to commend all students and staff for a recent Lockdown Drill. This was carried out meticulously and it reiterates the importance we place on your children’s health and safety. An external auditor described this as ‘perfect’, and I was extremely proud of the students of all ages.
Our President of the Student Executive Leadership Team, Manya Singh, was one of the UAE students fortunate enough to meet the Indian Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, during his visit to the region. Manya represented IB students and our GIS community exceptionally well and we are proud to see her in this photo (on Mr Modi’s left).
Finally, I am very excited, at the time of writing this newsletter, as the International Day preparations are happening and we have more countries represented than ever before (over 50)! Well done in advance to GISPA and I look forward to sharing photos and reflections next week.
Kind regards and have a wonderful weekend,
