Week Two - September 9th 2022
Dear PYP Parents,
This week we look forward to welcoming our PYP parents to school on Tuesday (13th) evening for our back to school curriculum night. During this evening you will learn more about the curriculum and approaches to learning at GIS and will have an opportunity to meet the teachers of your child(ren).
Thank you for your cooperation during dismissal to ensure you arrive on time and for ensuring you and your child have a common meeting spot. We have teachers throughout the school to support at dismissal. Please approach any teacher or staff member if you need assistance.
Sign up for extra curricular activities begins next week. Please discuss with your child which activities they would like to participate in.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms Kim Conlin

Every Monday and Wednesday from 3:30-4:15pm our teachers offer Extra Curricular Activities (ECAs). These ECAs are free and are offered for students in KG2 to Grade 5.
Sign ups for these ECAs open September 12th on the SOCS platform (instructions here). Students can sign up for 2 ECAs per term. School-led ECAs will begin September 19th.
Please note that there are no busses offered after ECAs, so that if you / your child opt to attend an ECA they will need to be collected by a parent or guardian at Gate 8 at 4:15.
There are limited spaces for ECAs, and are offered as a first come, first serve basis.
There are several external providers that offer activities at school. These are paid activities that require registration directly through the provider.
Parents PK-G1 drop/pick up in classroom (through gate 4,6,8)
Grade 2-5 drop/pick up either gate 4 or gate 8
Late/Tardy: any student arriving after the national anthem must get a late slip at front reception/gate 4
Students in Grade 1 and KG2 were very excited to attend their first ever in person assembly!
They met with our school counselor Ms. Kim, she talked to them about her superpowers that she can use to help them in school.
They listened to a story all about making friends and how to be kind to others.
Students tried out a mindfulness technique, bouncing bubbles. This helps develop mindful looking, to improve focus. Click here if you would like to try it out at home.
Email your child's homeroom teacher before 8am so that he / she can mark their absence as excused.
Complete an absence form for an absence of more than 2 days and submit to PYP office or homeroom teacher on the child's first day back.
Absence for more than 3 days requires prior approval if planned or a doctors clearance for illness related leave (in some cases a medical certificate is requested )
Email the gis_primaryleaverequest@gemsedu.com and your child's homeroom teacher 24 hours in advance to ensure your child and their leave slip are prepared in advance.
At the time of collection, please come to the Primary Reception at Gate 4.
Keeping our community safe with Covid-19 Protocols: if your child is a close contact or receives a positive test result please inform: gis_medicalalert@gemsedu.com
