Week Seventeen - January 24th, 2024
Dear Parents & Guardians,
What a remarkable week we have had in Secondary!
Our Grade 10 students showcased their dedication, creativity, and hard work in an outstanding MYP Personal Project Exhibition. This milestone, the culmination of months of research, planning, and execution, highlighted the diverse talents and passions of our students. From innovative tech solutions to meaningful community service initiatives, the projects reflected not only the academic rigor of the MYP but also the students' ability to take ownership of their learning.
Parents, teachers, and peers were impressed by the depth of inquiry and the creativity displayed. The exhibition served as a reminder of how impactful student-driven efforts can be, leaving all attendees inspired and proud of the next generation of thinkers and doers. Congratulations to all our Grade 10 students for their remarkable achievements!
Our Jaguar football and basketball teams are making waves this week in Doha as they compete in the highly anticipated GAAC tournament. The school spirit is at an all-time high as our students showcase their skills and teamwork on the field and court. At the time of writing, we are thrilled to share that both the girls’ and boys’ football teams have already secured their first wins! These victories are a testament to the hard work, determination, and collaboration of our student-athletes and their coaches.
We look forward to hearing more updates as the tournament progresses, and we are confident our teams will continue to make us proud with their efforts and sportsmanship.
Next week promises to be another exciting chapter in our school calendar with Week Without Walls and IDU (Interdisciplinary Unit) Week taking center stage. Both activities are part of our curriculum and compulsory for all students, offering unique opportunities for exploration, collaboration, and growth.
Week Without Walls will see students step outside the confines of the classroom and engage with real-world experiences. From community service projects to outdoor adventures, this programme is designed to develop independence, teamwork, and a sense of social responsibility.
Meanwhile, IDU Week will highlight the interdisciplinary nature of the MYP, as students work on projects that combine knowledge and skills from multiple subject areas. These projects encourage critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration, and we can’t wait to see the innovative ideas our students will develop. Both activities promise to be enriching and unforgettable experiences, and we encourage students to embrace the opportunities with enthusiasm and an open mind.
This week has exemplified the GIS spirit, combining intellectual curiosity with physical excellence. Whether in the classroom, on the exhibition floor, or on the field, our students have proven that their dedication and passion know no bounds.
Finally, a quick reminder to all parents that the week of February 3 is our mid-term break. With Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTCs) being held online on February 6 and 7, giving you the chance to discuss your child’s progress with their teachers. Please mark your calendars and make time to connect with us during this important event! Details on how to secure appointments will be shared shortly.
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable week ahead!
Kind regards
Ms Amanda
