Week Eighteen- January 20th 2023
Dear Parents,
It has been a pleasure to see parents at recent GISPA Coffee Mornings for different grade levels. I always try to drop by if I can and am happy to give school updates, answer questions or point parents in the right direction to get answers! On Thursday it was the turn of Grade 10 parents (at the same as their children were having talks in secondary on transition), and I thank Mr Dexter and all the parents for joining, and of course GISPA for organizing.
This week has seen a number of excellent assemblies take place, with key messages for grade levels. I was invited to a Grade 6 assembly in the Amphitheater and would like to thank Mr Zulk for speaking to the students on the theme of bullying. Students were so attentive, watched a brilliant video filmed by young people, and answered questions maturely. As a school, we firmly stand behind our culture of Respect, Trust and Ambition. With over 97 nationalities, we recognize how important it is to show respect for everyone’s home culture and language and to show respect both inside and outside the classroom. We want our students to be kind to each other and to find out more about those with whom they work and mix every day; knowing each other well provides a holistic picture of someone’s life, and a greater understanding beyond the two dimensional. We shall never ease up on encouraging our school culture and we are grateful to you for your support.
Next week we have a four-day visit from our colleagues at KHDA. We intend to show our school at its best, while also taking all constructive advice on moving forward. We shall do the same when our friend from the Council of International Schools come to visit later this year, and indeed with the IB accreditors also in due course. Judgements will be made during a drop-in and we shall learn from all external visitors and engage with them to offer the best education possible. We see all external visits as a chance to improve our processes. At the same time, I do hope that all our visitors gain a true feel for the school – they will certainly be impressed if/when they talk to students as I do on my way around school each day. Thank you to any parents who may be contacted by KHDA for giving of your time.
Finally, my thanks to Vansh K (Grade 12) for his excellent compilation video from last week’s Interdisciplinary Unit. Please view it here.
Kind regards and have a good weekend,
Simon Herbert

Student Led Initiatives
At GIS we love to see student agency and student led initiatives strive. One such student led ECA is ‘Writing Club’ led by Grade 10 student, Ezra D. Numbers have continued to grow as students enjoy discussions and development of their literary skills. Last week Ezra treated students to prizes after they completed a quiz.
