Week Fourteen - December 13th, 2024
Dear Parents,
It seems incredible that this is my final newsletter to you for the term! It has been an amazing term in many ways, and I thank you, our parents, for your ongoing support and for helping to make our community so special.
On the subject of people giving back to the community and helping others, it was wonderful to welcome Yonden Frank, a former GIS student, who graduated GIS as a CP student in 2023 and was the first in his cohort to receive an offer. Yonden is studying at the renowned Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). He came back to GIS to talk to Grade 11 students about his university experience, and to give advice on design and engineering courses.
The final week of term has been filled with lively events, and I particularly enjoyed the performances by our DP music students for their exams. The audience was treated to an eclectic and exciting range of musical pieces, from Debussy, through to Amy Winehouse and even Guns N’ Roses! Our thanks to Ms Verity for her organisation and for her constant support for all musicians in the school.
Last week we enjoyed the fruits of the hard work by the students and Arabic Departments, with Arabic Language and Culture Week. Verbal quizzes, food, music, calligraphy, prizes for cultural knowledge and much more allowed everyone to have fun and learn at the same time. This really brought the language and culture to life and we thank all involved.
Our PYP choir, led by Ms Erin, performed superbly at the Taj Exotica for their tree lighting ceremony. Well done all!
Finally, I am delighted to report how brilliant a community event Winterfest was. So many families came to this on Thursday and enjoyed an amazing Talent Show of 55 acts and stalls galore led by students! I was so impressed by the courage of all the students who performed. I would like to thank Ms Amanda and Ms Mary Ann for their organisation and Mr Ranjit and his team, Mr Arun our audio technician and the art and music departments for their superb support. What a way to end the term!
Kind regards and have a wonderful holiday,

The Country Ambassador program was launched in 2021 with the intention of helping connect families with their motherland tongue and country. Small community sub groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. We encourage you to join your country group via the QR code.
Although as a whole, we are one big family, it’s always nice to connect with those from our country. Ultimately, the goal is to have at least ONE representative for each country.
If you see that your country or ambassador is not listed and you are interested in representing your country, please reach out to us via email at gispa@gemsisak.com
Our Iranian, Egyptian and Latino parents have already started to welcome returning and new parents on a nice breakfast gathering.
We encourage all GIS communities to get together and keep us posted.
