Week Fourteen - December 13th, 2024
Dear Parents & Guardians,
Welcome to the last school week for 2024!
What a fantastic way to end the term and celebrate the festive season! GIS Winterfest, a highly anticipated community event, marked the conclusion of the first term with joy and excitement. This year’s Winterfest was a resounding success, bringing together students, parents, and staff for an evening brimming with friendship, creativity, and festive cheer.
One of the highlights of the event was the array of Homeroom stalls, where students showcased their entrepreneurial spirit by selling a variety of handmade items, holiday-themed crafts, and delicious treats. The stalls were a testament to the creativity and teamwork of the students, who worked tirelessly to prepare for the event. Parents and visitors eagerly browsed the stalls, supporting the students and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere.
The main celebration of the evening however, was the highly anticipated Talent Show, featuring nearly 60 acts performed by students, parents and staff members. The stage came alive with music, dance, drama, and more, showcasing the incredible talents and hard work of the performers. Each act was met with enthusiastic applause, reflecting the supportive and celebratory spirit of the school community. I would like to give a major shout out to Ms Emma, Ms Andrea, Ms Irasa, Ms Verity, Mr Rick, Ms Erin, Ms Anastasia, Ms Panayota and Mr Javier for their support of the talent show. They have been working tirelessly behind the scenes for weeks to bring the event to life!
Finally I would like to thank all staff who were involved in some way in bringing Winterfest 2024 to life. Homeroom teachers and Grade Level Leaders who organised the students, the Operation team for their amazing set up, and of course Ms Mary Ann, who single handedly coordinated the whole event! Thanks to each and every one of you!
Also this week, our Grade 12 DP Music students delivered an impressive performance that captivated the audience on Tuesday evening. Showcasing their talent, creativity, and dedication, the students performed a range of musical pieces that reflected their hard work and passion for the subject. The event was a testament to their growth as musicians and the support they have received from their teachers and peers. A heartfelt congratulations to all the performers for an evening filled with inspiring music and memorable moments! I would also like to thank Ms Verity and Mr Arun for their dedication and professionalism in assisting our students perform, as well as Mr Neil Engel, an external consultant for the event.
As we wrap up the term, we would like to remind parents that school reports will be available on this afternoon through the GEMS connect app and school will resume for Term 2 on January 6th 2025.
We wish all our families a joyful and relaxing holiday break filled with quality time, cherished moments, and the opportunity to recharge for the year ahead!
Kind regards
Ms Amanda
