Week Thirteen - December 1st, 2023
Dear Parents & Guardians
As we move into a very well-deserved long weekend, I would like to firstly thank all parents, students and staff who were involved in this week’s KHDA visit. Our school community came together, once again, and brought to the forefront, our values of Respect, Trust and Ambition for all. We were under the spotlight this week, and I must say, I am so proud of our magnificent team. I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to each and everyone of you!
Despite this past week being known as ‘the busiest week of the year’, it certainly did not slow us down in Secondary! It was business as usual!
Our National Day celebrations were once again a highlight. Our student performers, of which there were many, did a wonderful job in sharing their talents with us. Students enjoyed visiting the cultural stalls and learning a bit more about this great Nation that we call home. I would like to thank all involved, staff, students and parents, for making this day so special.
Another highlight of the week for me was when I was visiting classes and assemblies. Ms Hiba’s Grade 10 class had to solve the case of the missing ingredient when a perfume thief stole a vital part! I was fascinated at seeing the students apply their critical thinking skills to solve the mystery!
Similarly, Ms Sandy’s Service As Action assembly was a real treat. I was so proud to see some of our Grade 12 young men speaking so passionately to our Grade 7 & 8 students, about their CAS and Service Learning projects. Majd Sakkal, Antonio Bilhim, Jorge Zubiri and Sultan Murooshid shared their experiences of visiting Sri Lanka to volunteer at a sea turtle sanctuary; and their work with the homeless and elderly in Barcelona. Both of these trips were organized by them, in their own time. Their experiences will stay with them forever, but their actions will have a deeper impact on the people that they met along the way. Congratulations to you all.
Ms Meena has established a solid relationship with NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences, which has seen them return to us again this year. Two professors ran a masterclass in Ethical hacking and cybersecurity to a select group of interested students. Those in attendance found this class engaging and extremely informative. Thank you to Ms Meena for ensuring that our students are being exposed to such information.
I would also like to thank our Arabic Department for coordinating a field trip for Grade 6 Arabic A students to visit the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Library. Students found this trip informative and appreciated the visit very much.
On that note, I wish you and your family a great long weekend. I hope you find time to relax and spend some quality time together.
Kind regards
Amanda Murphy
