At GEMS International School, we believe education is a partnership between home and school. Through the full IB continuum — the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP), and Career-related Programme (CP) — we support your child’s growth at every stage, nurturing confident, compassionate, and globally minded learners.
From early inquiry to career pathways, our curriculum empowers students to flourish academically, socially, and emotionally. This site is your guide to understanding how each IB programme works together to support your child’s journey — and how you, as parents, play a vital role every step of the way.
Vision for Teaching and Learning
At GIS, our vision for teaching and learning is to create a dynamic, inclusive, and forward-thinking learning environment where all students are empowered to thrive. We are committed to cultivating excellence in teaching practices that respond to student needs, foster deep engagement, and ensure equitable access to high-quality learning experiences. Our approach is anchored in four strategic priorities:
Leading Systematic Curriculum Development
Implementing Effective Pedagogical Practices
Inclusive Learning and Teaching
Analysing and Discussing Data for Improvement
Approaches to Learning Skills
At GIS, we believe that learning how to learn is just as important as what is learned. The Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills are a core part of the IB curriculum and help students become confident, capable, and independent learners. These skills are taught and practiced across all subjects and grade levels, supporting students in their academic progress, personal development, and lifelong learning journey. The five ATL skill categories are:
Thinking Skills – Encouraging critical, creative, and reflective thinking.
Communication Skills – Helping students express themselves and understand others.
Social Skills – Building teamwork, collaboration, and respect for others.
Self-Management Skills – Supporting organization, resilience, and emotional well-being.
Research Skills – Fostering curiosity, inquiry, and the ability to find and evaluate information.
Together, these skills empower students to take ownership of their learning and thrive in a changing world.
Learner Profile Attributes
At the heart of the IB programme is the Learner Profile—a set of ten attributes that guide students to become well-rounded individuals who are prepared to make a positive difference in the world. These attributes go beyond academic success. They help children grow into thoughtful, compassionate, and principled people who are curious about the world and care about others. Throughout their learning journey at GIS, students are encouraged to develop the following qualities. These attributes shape not only how students learn, but also who they become.
Inquirers – They nurture curiosity, ask questions, and enjoy learning.
Knowledgeable – They explore ideas across subjects and build deep understanding.
Thinkers – They apply thinking skills to make reasoned and ethical decisions.
Communicators – They express themselves clearly and listen respectfully to others.
Principled – They act with integrity, fairness, and respect for all.
Open-minded – They value different perspectives and learn from diversity.
Caring – They show empathy, kindness, and a commitment to helping others.
Risk-takers – They are brave and resilient when facing new challenges.
Balanced – They understand the importance of well-being for themselves and others.
Reflective – They thoughtfully consider their learning and experiences.
