Sport Specific Training - Basketball/Soccer is a course for those interested in improving their technical ability, knowledge and experience in these two sports.

This course is designed for athletes in grades 10, 11, and 12, who are seeking higher level instruction and training in soccer and basketball. This course is comprised of work on:

  • nutrition
  • officiating
  • The mental side of competition will also be explored through a variety of sport psychology topics such as goal setting, imagery techniques, and motivation.

The majority of the time will be spent on Soccer and Basketball; however, other sports and games may be introduced occasionally to enhance performance and learning.

In addition, students will take part in field trips, and be exposed to a variety of guest speakers such as well-known community figures, players, and/or coaches (ex. TRU).

Students must be committed to learning fundamental movement skills, performing at a vigorous activity level each day, pushing themselves outside of their comfort zones, while being safe and respectful.

As this is a performance-based course, the following are required for anyone taking this course:

  • regular daily attendance
  • proper gym strip = functional clothing for movement - shirts with sleeves and no deep V's, shorts (mid-thigh), proper running shoes/sneakers AND should not be the clothes worn to school that day, for hygienic reasons. Warmer layers for colder weather encouraged, and hats are permitted outside.
