Specialized Science - Health Science

Firstly, Health Science 12 is designed to serve as a sampler and preparatory course for those students that may be interested in pursuing a career in a health-related field. It is also an introduction to the field of Kinesiology. Students will learn human anatomy and physiology - with emphasis on muscle and bone tissues, in addition to the study of some of the major body organs, systems, and movement/biomechanics. Lifestyle-related concepts such as physical fitness and nutrition are also covered. Students will be introduced to the concepts of defense and repair - investigating various injuries, diseases and infections. Lastly, students will explore typical diagnostic techniques, various medical technologies, rehabilitation programs, treatments and cures. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about various health-related professions.

Secondly, this course will expose students to the educational expectations of a post-secondary student who wants to pursue a career in the Health Sciences. Projects, assignments, lectures, labs, tests and quizzes will all be modeled to reflect what students will face in future studies. Students will learn to use a variety of strategies to ensure academic success at the post-secondary level.
