Chemistry Units 3 and 4

This site is meant as a collection of resources to support Chemistry Units 3 and 4. It is not meant to be a comprehensive coverage of the course material nor a replacement for your textbook.

Scope of study

Chemistry explores and explains the composition and behaviour of matter and the chemical processes that occur on Earth and beyond. Chemical models and theories are used to describe and explain known chemical reactions and processes. Chemistry underpins the production and development of energy, the maintenance of clean air and water, the production of food, medicines and new materials, and the treatment of wastes.

Unit 3 addresses the question:

"How can chemical processes be designed to optimise efficiency?"

Unit 4 addresses the question:

"How are organic compounds categorised, analysed and used?"

Expectations

To do your best this year in Chemistry, you must be willing to commit to the following:

- Arrive to class on time, prepared to learn and to support the learning of your classmates
- Read and take notes on assigned chapters
- Complete all exercises as assigned through Google Classroom
- Use the textbook and and any other resources that you have been advised to use to support your learning
- Assess your understanding by completing online quizzes and problems from Checkpoints VCE Chemistry 3 & 4 (Cambridge)
- Keep a comprehensive logbook of all practical work (see here for details)
