A note from our donors - Donors and the scholarship committee want applications to be filled out by the grad.  Applications that are completed by parents may be disqualified.

Agriculture Scholarships

Lady Directors of Agriculture Society Award - $500*** This is the Grad 2023 information.  It is not yet available for Grad 2023.  Please check back in March 2024 for updated information.

This scholarship of $500 is awarded to a student who is going to continue his or her education in an agriculture related course.

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship

Deadline:  June 6, 2023

Application:  Complete attached application and return to the VCI Office.


Pipestone-Sifton Conservation Award - $500

*** This is the Grad 2023 information.  It is not yet available for Grad 2023.  Please check back in March 2024 for updated information.

This award of $500 is presented to a student who is continuing their education in a field related to agriculture or conservation.  Selection of the recipient may be based more on the individual’s community involvement, interest in agriculture or conservation and attitude, than on academic skill alone.  The student must  have a parent or grandparent as a current resident or landowner in either Pipestone or Sifton Municipalties.  

Recipients have 36 months to claim funds.

Deadline: May 26, 2023

Application: Complete application which includes: 

(1) The municipality in which the student resides 

(2) Educational institution that they will be attending and the courses enrolled in 

(3) Background information regarding extra-curricular activities, community involvement, interests, and hobbies 

(4) Interest in agriculture or conservation 

and send to donor. 

Southwest Manitoba Cattle Sales Association Scholarship -  $100

*** This is the Grad 2023 information.  It is not yet available for Grad 2023.  Please check back in March 2024 for updated information.

This award of $100 is given to a graduate who must be furthering their education in a degree or diploma agriculture program or in a program related to agriculture, such as veterinary medicine, home economics, or mechanics (may be applied to either university or college). **Please note that this award is not given out every year.  Last given out at Grad 2020

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Woodworth Grazing Club Award - $500

This award of $500 is presented to a graduating student pursuing an agricultural lifestyle but does not need to be used for post secondary education. Selection of the recipient will be based upon background information including extracurricular activities, school and community involvement and interests and hobbies and what they plan on using this award for. The student must reside in Ward 1 of the Rural Municipality of Wallace- Woodworth.

Should multiple students meet the criteria – the board reserves the right to divide the $500 award amongst these students.

 Arts (Choir, Band, Drama, Visual Arts)

Arts Mosaic Scholarship -  2 Awards of $500

*** This is the Grad 2023 information.  It is not yet available for Grad 2023.  Please check back in March 2024 for updated information.

This award of $500 is given to a VCI graduate who is planning to continue at the post-secondary level in any of the following arts disciplines: visual, literary, performing, and functional arts. 

The scholarship must be used within twelve months from the date it is awarded.

Deadline: May 26, 2023

Application:  Complete attached application form and return to the Arts Mosaic Office.


VCI Band  Scholarship - $200 

This award of $200 is given to a VCI graduating band student. Consideration will be given to students who are not taking a music degree, but who are enrolled in at least 1 music class.  

Recipients have 6 months in which to use scholarship money.

VCI Choir Scholarship - $250

This award of $200 is given to  the most outstanding student in the Virden Collegiate Choral Program.

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Deadline & Application: There is no deadline or application for this scholarship.   Recipients will be selected from the list of graduating students, who are furthering their education at a post-secondary institution, by VCI Scholarship Committee.  To be considered for this scholarship you must fill out the Scholarship Information Form that is posted on the Grad 2024 Google Classroom by May 15, 2024.

Virden Music & Arts Festival  - Visual Arts Scholarship 

This award is given to a graduate who has displayed excellence in attitude, work habits, and respect for others, and has participated in the Virden Music & Arts Festival.

Deadline & Application: There is no deadline or application for this scholarship. Subject teachers & festival committee choose recipient from list of students that have participated in the Virden Music & Arts Festival throughout their school years.

Business and Accounting Scholarships

ACE (Applied Commerce Education) Scholarship - $500

This award of $500 is given to a student who is graduating with the Business Diploma and is continuing their education. Preference is given to graduates who are continuing their education in the field of business. 

Recipients have up to 27 months to use scholarship funds.

Miss I. M. Dryden Award - $1000

This award of $1000 is given to the student with the highest standing in a Business Education course.

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Virden Lions Club Business Scholarship - $500

This award of $500 is given to a student in the business education stream and is  furthering his or her education.

Community Clubs, Churches, & Organizations Scholarships 

Kenton/Lenore Legion Branch #118 Bursary - $400

*** This is the Grad 2023 information.  It is not yet available for Grad 2023.  Please check back in March 2024 for updated information.

This $400 is presented to a graduating student who is a child of a member of the Kenton/Lenore Legion, who is furthering their education.

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Deadline & Application:   An application letter is sent to qualifying graduates by April 15.  The Kenton Legion Branch looks over its member ship list for the current year to find eligible graduates.

Ladies Auxiliary to Royal Canadian Legion Branch #8 Award - $500 (2 awards)

This award of $500 is given to a VCI graduate who is the son, daughter, grandchild, or great grandchild of a Legion Branch Member and/or a Legion Ladies Auxiliary member and is continuing his/ her education.

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Lenore 4-H Club Scholarship - $200

This award of $200 is given to a VCI graduate, who is a current member, is in good standing with the Lenore 4-H club, and has been with the club for at least five years. The recipient must demonstrate leadership in the club, community, province/country and school, as well as be an active volunteer. The recipient must attend a post-secondary institution within one year of graduation.

Royal Canadian Legion # 8 Scholarship - $500 (2 awards)


This award of $500 is given to a student of good character, attitude, and ability  is involved in his/her community, and is a relative of a Legion member.

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Deadline: May 29, 2024 (deadline has been extended)

Thomas A.  Jourdin Memorial Scholarship (Wallace District Fire Department) - $500

This $500 scholarship is presented to a student graduating from Virden Collegiate Institute who meets the following criteria (set forth by the members of the Wallace District Fire Department Station #1 Virden). In order to qualify for the Scholarship a student must: 

(1)Show a desire to pursue a full time career in the Fire Service 

(2) Have shown involvement in school and community through service work and volunteering 

(3)Provide proof of academic proficiencies.  

Recipients have up to 5 years to claim funds.

Virden and District Ministerial Association Scholarship - 2 awards of $200

*** This is the Grad 2023 information.  It is not yet available for Grad 2023.  Please check back in March 2024 for updated information.

This scholarship in the amount of $300 is given to a graduating student who will be furthering his/her Christian education at a post-secondary school to develop his or her skills for ministry. This recipient attends a local church and demonstrates good character and moral standing.  

The recipient of this scholarship has up to 27 months to use funds.

Deadline: May 1, 2023

Application: Applicants need to submit a 300-500 word essay describing his/her plans and hopes for the future: Christian education, ministry plans, life goals, etc.  Applicants may also reflect upon their faith journey up unto the present.

Virden Curling Club Scholarship - $500


This award of $500 is given to a graduate who has been a member of good standing with the Virden Curling club for more than 3 years. This recipient is an active community volunteer and has been accepted into a post-secondary institution.

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Virden Zone 4-H Award - $100

This $100 award is given to an outstanding 4-H member from within the 4-H Virden Zone.

Deadline & Application:  There is no deadline or application for this scholarship. The recipient will selected by the Virden 4-H Executive.

Corex Resources Continuing Education Award  -

2 awards of $1000

This award of $1000 is given to a student who will be furthering his/her education in engineering, geology, geophysics, accounting, computer science, petroleum landman, or bachelor of commerce.  This scholarship is also available to VCI Alumni. Interested alumni should contact Corex for more information.  

The recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship. However it is also open to VCI Alumni to apply after graduation.  Alumni applicants should submit their applications to Corex.

Custom Software Solutions Inc. Computer Science Award - $500

This award of $500 is given to the top Computer Science student who will be going on to post-secondary training.

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Westman Communications Group Award of Excellence - $5000 (5 awards given to grads in the communities that Westman Communications Group serves)


This $5000 scholarship is award to a grad who is

1. Entering the first year of a Bachelor’s degree or diploma program in the field of technology at a Canadian post-secondary institute, beginning in the fall of 2024. 

2. Can demonstrate perseverance, a passion for technology, and contribution toward the community. 

3. Has Canadian permanent residence. 

4. Are students in grade 12 graduating in 2024. 

5. Are currently attending high school in an area that WCG services. 

SELECTION CRITERIA 1. Proven academic excellence. 2 History of volunteering and community service. 3. Proven leadership skills.

Corex Resources Continuing Education Award  - 2 awards of $1000

ERCO World Wide Scholarship - $1000

This award of $1250 is given to a deserving VCI graduate with good academic standing. This recipient must be continuing their education in apprenticeship programing in the area of industrial trades: mechanic, millwright, electrical, pipefitting, construction. 

The ERCO Scholarship will be presented to a student who meets the following criteria: 

1)  Is entering a recognized apprenticeship program in the area of industrial trades, mechanic, millwright, electrical, pipefitting, construction, etc. 

2) If no graduates fit criteria 1, a student entering power engineering  

3) If no graduates fit criteria 1 or 2, a student entering the engineering field will be considered 

Recipient must plan on working towards apprenticeship hours in the year following graduation.

Andrew Agencies Scholarship  - $500

This $500 award is given to a deserving VCI graduate who has been accepted into an accredited post-secondary institution.

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Deadline & Application: There is no deadline or application for this scholarship.   Recipients will be selected from the list of graduating students, who are furthering their education at a post-secondary institution, by VCI Scholarship Committee.  To be considered for this scholarship you must fill out the Scholarship Information Form that is posted on the Grad 2023 Google Classroom by May 26, 2023.

Chown Centennial Entrance Scholarship - $1000

This award of $1000 is given to a student with high standing in Grade 12 and entering a degree or diploma program at the University of Manitoba. To qualify for Chown Centennial Scholarship a student must: (1)in Manitoba, complete with high standing (minimum of 85% or comparable standing) (2) be admitted in and register for a full-time (24 credit hours) course load in the upcoming academic session (3) be the best graduate, according to criteria established by each school. 

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Deadline & Application: There is no application for this scholarship.   Recipients will be selected from the list of graduating students, who are furthering their education at a post-secondary institution, by VCI Scholarship Committee.  To be considered for this scholarship you must fill out the Scholarship Information Form that is posted on the Grad 2024 Google Classroom by May 15, 2024.

Craig A. McIntosh Scholarship - $5000 - $20,000 (dispersed over a period of up to 5 years) (Multiple awards may be given out.)

This award of $5000 - $20000 is given to a deserving Virden Collegiate Graduate.  Consideration will be given to graduates with financial needs. Recipients will receive a maximum of $5000 each year.  Funds may be spread over a 6 year period.

Deadline & Application: Recipients will be selected from the list of graduating students, who are furthering their education at a post-secondary institution, by VCI Scholarship Committee.  

To be considered for this scholarship you must: 

(1) Complete the VCI Financial Need Application and submit it to the VCI Office by May 1, 2024.

(2) fill out the Scholarship Information Form that is posted on the Grad 2023 Google Classroom by May 1, 2024.

Fort La Bosse School Division Award - $500

This award of $500 is given to a deserving student. 

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Deadline & Application: There is application for this scholarship.   Recipients will be selected from the list of graduating students, who are furthering their education at a post-secondary institution, by VCI Scholarship Committee. To be considered for this scholarship you must fill out the Scholarship Information Form that is posted on the Grad 2024 Google Classroom by May 15, 2024.

Goulter Scholarship - $1000

This award of $1000 is given to Goulter descendant or deserving student who is furthering his/her education. If no Goulter descendant is graduating, the scholarship is awarded to a deserving student. Consideration will be given to graduates with financial need.  

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Deadline & Application:   Recipients will be selected from the list of graduating students, who are furthering their education at a post-secondary institution, by VCI Scholarship Committee. 

To be considered for this scholarship you must: 

(1) Complete the VCI Financial Need Application and submit it to the VCI Office by May 15, 2023

Lillian Donaldson  Award - $500

This award of $500 is given to a student who is furthering their education in music, literature, or history. Consideration will given to graduates with financial need. 

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Deadline & Application: Recipients will be selected from the list of graduating students, who are furthering their education at a post-secondary institution, by VCI Scholarship Committee.   

To be considered for this scholarship you must:

This $500-$1000 award is given to a deserving graduating student.

This award of $500 is given to a student in an academic stream who is furthering his/her education.

Laura Fefchak Memorial Scholarship - $1000


This award of $1000 is given to a VCI graduate who is planning to continue their post-secondary education in social work, and has displayed excellence in community service (in school, community clubs, church, etc.)  If there is no graduate who is planning on entering social work, this scholarship will be awarded to a student who has displayed excellence in community service.

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Virden Justice Committee Award - $250 


This $250 scholarship is awarded to a deserving student who is going on to post-secondary studies and is pursuing a justice-related career.

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Bryan Wark Memorial Scholarship - $500

This award of $400 is given to a deserving student, who has demonstrated good sportsmanship, team spirit, and leadership skills, and plans to continue his or her education at a post-secondary school. 

Recipients have up to 15 months to use scholarship money.

Duane"Skippy "Holland Memorial Scholarship Award Oak Lake and Area Foundation (2 awards) - $250

This award of $250 is given to an Oak Lake graduate. Preference will be given to those applying to a trade and to those that have shown volunteerism and philanthropy in the community.  

Scholarship funds may be claimed up to 15 months from graduation.

Guild Insurance Group Award - $500

This $500  award is given to a graduating student who has applied to and been accepted to a Post-Secondary Institution to pursue post- secondary studies, who practices the Golden Rule in daily practice, “do unto others as you would have them do unto you',  has shown determination to achieve academics, has shown commitment to volunteering their time with local organizations and/or school throughout their senior years of high school (Grade 10-12).

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Jean & Murray Thomas Memorial Scholarship Award Virden & Area Foundation - 2 awards of  $1000

This $1000 scholarship award recognizes graduating Virden Collegiate Institute students who demonstrate the qualities of active participation in civic or community activities, good scholarship, and school involvement.  The following specific criteria apply: 

(1) Volunteer service to community 

(2) Involvement in citizenship or character building                             organizations 

(3) Good scholastic record 

(4) Participation in student programs or activities 

(5) Leadership ability to motivate others to actions to benefit the community. 

Awards are available for use in any of the next three ensuing academic years.  Award money is available for use in any of the next three ensuing academic years; awards not claimed within that timeframe will be forfeited.

This award of $1000 is presented to a graduate of Virden Collegiate who demonstrates (1) volunteer involvement in the school or community and (2) qualities of a good citizen.  Academic achievement will only be considered in the case of two or more candidates that are equal in the above mentioned criteria.

Recipients have up to 12 months to claim funds.

T.K. Wakely Memorial Scholarship - $500

This $500 scholarship is presented to a graduating student who is (1) pursing a career in the trades (2) has overcome challenges during their education (3) volunteered in their school and/or local community.

VCI Advisory Council Student Leadership (ACSL) Awards - $250  (Multiple Awards)


This award of $250 is given to a graduating VCI student who is continuing their education at an accredited post- secondary institution, and who has been an active member of their school and community.

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Application: Candidates must apply in the form of an essay.  This essay should be 250 words and include future plans as well as previous school and community involvement.  Completed essays should be submitted to the VCI Office.

VCI Student Council Annual Scholarship - $250

This award of $250 is given to a long term member of the present student council, who is continuing his or her education. 

 Recipients have up 15 months after graduation to claim funds.

This award of $500 is presented to a grade 12 student that has displayed excellence in the area of volunteerism, throughout his/her high school years.

This is an award that is not dependent on the recipient going on to post-secondary studies.

Medical Scholarships

Dr. John William Bradley Memorial Award - $250

This award of $250 is given to a graduating student going into the medical field, dentistry, or medical diploma.

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Hamiota District Health Centre Foundation Inc. Bursary Fund - $500

This $500 award is presented to a graduate of Hamiota, Rivers, Strathclair, Virden, or Birtle Collegiate who is enrolled in post-secondary studies leading to a career in any of the following fields: Pre-Medicine, Nursing, Emergency Medical Services, or other health related medical studies.  - Only one recipient will be selected per collegiate. Scholarship is open to residents of the following Municipal Corporations: Hamiota, Oakview, Prairie View, or Wallace-Woodworth.

Manitoba Nurses Union Local 40 Scholarship - 3 awards of $500


This award of $500 was created in accordance with MNU Local 40 Members' vision to further educate members and future members.  It is their hope that the recipient of such award will be interested in returning to rural nursing.  Applicants must be accepted into an approved post-secondary nursing program and must be a student from VCI, RCI, or Elkhorn School.  

Recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship.

Sunrise Credit Union Ltd. Scholarship - $1500

Note: This scholarship has changed for Grad 2024.  It is now a regional scholarship and open to all Sunrise Credit Union members. Please read carefully.
Sunrise Credit Union scholarships reward excellence and are awarded yearly based on academic standing, leadership, extracurricular activities, volunteerism and community involvement. The Sunrise Credit Union Scholarship Program distributes up to $25,000 annually to deserving individuals. There will be a minimum of fourteen (14) education awards annually: • 1 - $5,000 scholarship for a high school graduate seeking post-secondary education. • 10 - $1,000 scholarships for High School graduates seeking post-secondary education.
    • Applicants must be members of Sunrise Credit Union or children/dependents of members. 
    • Applicants must be high school students graduating in June 2024. 
    • Applicants must be enrolled to attend an approved post-secondary institution fulltime and provide proof of enrollment.

Valleyview Coop Academic/Merit Scholarship - $1000

This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student in each of the following schools:  Melita, Reston, Pierson, Virden, Sioux Valley and Hamiota. The successful candidate must display the values of Valleyview Co-op - integrity (be honest and trustworthy), community (be a leader and supportive of community), and excellence (strive to be the best).  Participation in sports, clubs, teams and volunteer work in the community will be considered along with your educational record.

Valleyview Coop Student Employee Scholarship Fund - $.20/hour worked

Valleyview Co-op will apply 20 cents per hour worked towards the student’s post secondary tuition costs. Students must be employed with Valleyview Co-op for a minimum of one year of continuous service at the time of their Grade12 graduation (cut off June 30th) and maintain a job performance rating of fully achieving performance or better.

ACC One to Watch Entrance Award - $1,000

ACC celebrates the exceptional leadership and school/ community involvement of Manitoba high school students through the One to Watch Entrance Award. More than $300,000 is available, with one $1,000 award designated for every eligible Manitoba high school.  The One to Watch Entrance Award aims to foster the next generation of leaders who have chosen Assiniboine as their post-secondary destination directly after high school.

This award of $1000 is given to a student who will be furthering his/her education in engineering, geology, geophysics, accounting, computer science, petroleum landman, or bachelor of commerce.  This scholarship is also available to VCI Alumni. The recipient must be attending post-secondary schooling in the fall immediately following grad to receive this scholarship. However it is also open to VCI Alumni to apply after graduation.  Alumni applicants should submit their applications to Corex.

ERCO World Wide Scholarship - $1000


This award of $1250 is given to a deserving VCI graduate with good academic standing. This recipient must be continuing their education in apprenticeship programing in the area of industrial trades: mechanic, millwright, electrical, pipefitting, construction. 

The ERCO Scholarship will be presented to a student who meets the following criteria: 

1)  Is entering a recognized apprenticeship program in the area of industrial trades, mechanic, millwright, electrical, pipefitting, construction, etc. 

2) If no graduates fit criteria 1, a student entering power engineering  

3) If no graduates fit criteria 1 or 2, a student entering the engineering field will be considered 

Recipient must plan on working towards apprenticeship hours in the year following graduation.

Deadline & Application: There is no deadline or application for this scholarship.   Recipients will be selected from the list of graduating students, who are furthering their education at a post-secondary institution, by VCI Scholarship Committee.  To be considered for this scholarship you must fill out the Scholarship Information Form that is posted on the Grad 2024 Google Classroom by May 15, 2024.

T.K. Wakely Memorial Scholarship - $500

This $500 scholarship is presented to a graduating student who is (1) pursing a career in the trades (2) has overcome challenges during their education (3) volunteered in their school and/or local community.
