At the beginning of School Year 2008–2009, Okkodo High School opened its doors as the fifth high school on the island. At the time, the OHS library held a small inventory of donated fiction books and a shelf of inspirational titles by famous world leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. These were donated by the Soka Gakkai International of Guam and various instructors from different schools across the island. Although the library’s collection was limited that first year, it made do with the resources it had.
In School Year 2009–2010, the OHS library received its full collection of books by the end of the first quarter. An inventory of over 14,000 titles—including fiction, non-fiction, biographies, and reference materials—became available for students, faculty, and staff to borrow by the second week of the second quarter. Many of the books in the collection are recognized by the School Library Journal and featured on the websites of the American Library Association (ALA) and the American Association of School Librarians (AASL).
Today, the OHS library offers over 19,000 resources for borrowing. These include popular young adult fiction, eBooks, digital subscriptions, and educational DVDs. To browse the OHS Library Collection, click on the SCHOOL LIBRARY logo on this page.
