Banned Books Week (September 26 - October 2, 2021) spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in our libraries and schools. It brings together the entire book community in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas. The books featured during Banned Books Week have all been targeted for removal or restriction in libraries and schools. Reasons for removal and/or restriction may be due to the following:
the material was considered to be "sexually explicit"
the material contained "offensive language"
the materials was "unsuited to any age group"
The eBooks featured above are CLASSIC books that have been challenged or banned. Please feel free to read them and Celebrate your Freedom to Read! Be aware of why books are challenged and/or banned. The American Library Association (ALA) and our GWHS Library promotes the freedom to choose or the freedom to express one's opinions even if that opinion might be considered unorthodox or unpopular, and stresses the importance of ensuring the availability of those viewpoints to all who wish to read them.
