All students attending school in North Carolina are eligible to enter.
Projects may be entered in the following categories:
Primary: Grades K-2 (Individual or Class Projects)
Elementary: Grades 3-4 (Individual or Class Projects)
Intermediate: Grades 5-6 (Individual or Class Projects)
Middle School: Grades 7-8 (Individual Projects)
High School: Grades 9-12 (Individual Projects)
Class projects must involve a majority of the students in that class and may be represented by one or two students.
Individual projects involve one or two students only.
If a student is paired up with another student from a different division, then they must compete in the higher division.
For example, if a 6th and 7th-grader pair up on a project, then they must enter the Middle School Division (7-8), not the Intermediate Division (5-6).
There is a limit of individual 3 projects per school per category and 1 project per category for primary, elementary, and intermediate.
Projects must be pre-registered to be accepted for competition. During the judging, each project must be represented by one or two students whose names appear on the project.
Students who are finalists at this fair will be invited to participate in the State Math Fair on April 25, 2026.
