8am - 9 Voluntary cell phone drop off in Main lobby of 86 and 46 (Faculty and Staff)
Faculty and Staff can choose their own tech path for the day. Select the level, activity and duration that works for you (see suggestions below). Plan an activity that gives control and awareness to your students or make it tech free, reclaiming your attention without a screen as mediator.
Teachers and staff will decide how they and their students will participate in the technology awareness experience.
Some entire divisions (e.g., Middle School Faculty) have decided to not use laptops with students during classtime on 5/6. Some divisions (e.g., Lower Schoo) are designing activities that make intentional use of STEAM and MAKER tools. In every case, faculty and staff members should designate how technology will be engaged for that day.
THE KEY IS TO PLAN AHEAD!
We recommend selecting a participation tier that you are comfortable with before May 6th. Here are a few examples:
TIER1
Disconnect for one hour outside of class using one of the examples on the list below or creating your own:
Continue with classes as usual, selecting a private way to disconnect
Choose one class or subject and intentionally unplug
Don't check email for one hour
Choose a time of day when you will stand apart
Discuss with students why it helps to unplug
TIER2
Disconnect for the morning or some extended part of the day
Continue with your curricular study using prepared analog materials
Choose one class and using their devices conduct a mindfulness check-in on free attention, "how does it feel?"
Choose two classes for intentional and special analog activities
TIER3
Disconnect for the entire day, preparing materials before May 6th that further class lessons for all of your students.
