Dr. Edith Widder is an Oceanographer and Marine biologist. She has made great contributions to the world's understanding of bioluminescent creatures in the ocean. Her research in the field led her to write Below the Edge of Darkness: A Memoir of Exploring Light & Life in the Deep Sea. Her book explains how her life led her to her discoveries in the ocean. 

            I have connected with Dr. Widder over email and we are currently working on finding a time to talk. Due to personal complications, Dr. Widder was not able to meet with me before this final presentation. However, I will still stay in contact with her to find a time to discuss the subject of bioluminescence as it is something that I will continue to be interested in even after our Independent Projects come to an end!
