Philosophy:
Eighth grade is a transition year to prepare students for success in high school.
Our homework philosophy reflects the need for students to be responsible for their own work and behavior.
By accepting this responsibility, the student can become a contributing member of the community in both high school and beyond.
Policy and Consequences:
Assignments are to be turned in on the day they are due.
Each teacher will accept late work for points but will not accept late work after the unit concludes.
If a pattern of chronic lateness or missing work becomes evident, parents will be contacted in an effort to rectify the problem.
The 8th grade teachers have set time in the day to discuss 8th grade topics. Student behavior can be a topic that is brought up. If we notice poor student behavior across all of our classes, the student will get brought into our team meeting. We will discuss possible solutions to the problem and allow the student to apply the solutions on their own. If the problems continue, administration and the parents will be involved.
We will be following the middle school discipline policy that is being discussed with the students at the beginning of the year.
Note: Cheating/copying another student’s work will result in after-school detention and a zero for that assignment for all students involved.
