This week while learning about the Great Reno Balloon Race, we have talked a lot about heat transfer. Students learned that convection is the fancy word for what makes a hot air balloon to go up and down. Hands on activities focused on seeing how heat rises.

We did so much today that it needed it's own highlight. First, we had breakfast with club with Ms. Martha (OT) and Ms. Potts (SLP). Each student made a giant pancake! They focused very hard to use patience, manners, measuring and mixing skills. Then they enjoys a wonderful treat! We also did an experiment to see how many colors make up the color black. Finally we did some traditional watercolor painting with glue borders.
August 26-30
While learning about the Creative Growth Art Studio we brought STEAM into the classroom. We gather nature materials to see if we could make our own watercolors. They mostly made brown. We also shopped the art studio's shop in math by selecting items, totaling our purchase and counting out the money.
August 19-23
This week we learned all about Puffin Peguins and how the Puffin Patrol is helping to save Puffins. First we learned how Puffins have a waxy coating on their feathers, much like crayons, that repel water. Then we practiced finding the puffins in the night and cleaning them just like the volunteers.
