OCTOBER
Happy October! Weāre excited to share all the wonderful things happening in the RISE class this month. As the weather cools down, our classroom is heating up with learning and fun activities. Hereās a look at whatās been going on and what weāre looking forward to in October.
Reading & Writing: Our students have been working hard on building their reading and writing skills. We've seen great progress in adding details to their sentences, and many are stepping up to volunteer for reading aloud. A big shout-out to our classroom role models!
Campus Life: Our students continue to show their independence by some maneuvering the campus on their own and staying organized. Theyāve also been helpful in running classroom errands and supporting each other throughout the day.
Classroom Community: Weāve been fostering a positive and supportive classroom environment. The students have been very helpful to one another, and their teamwork is inspiring. Of course, weāre also embracing a little sass and personalityāit keeps our classroom full of life and energy!
Fat Bear Week: We start off the month learning about and celebrating Fat Bear Week.Ā FAT Bear Week is an annual event celebrating the brown bears of Katmai National Park in Alaska as they prepare for winter hibernation. The event, held in early October, features a public voting competition where people can view photos of bears and vote for the bear that has gained the most weight throughout the summer. These bears pack on pounds by feasting on salmon in preparation for their long hibernation.
The event is both fun and educational, raising awareness about the bears' survival strategies and the ecosystem of Katmai National Park. It highlights the bears' impressive transformation from lean, post-hibernation bodies to the round, well-fed forms they need to survive the winter. Each bear has its own personality and story, making the competition a charming way to learn more about wildlife.
National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is observed every October in the United States to celebrate the contributions of workers with disabilities and promote awareness about the importance of inclusive workplaces. Established by the U.S. Department of Labor, this month highlights the value of a workforce that includes people of all abilities and encourages employers to recognize the skills and talents that individuals with disabilities bring to their organizations.
The theme for NDEAM changes each year, but the overall focus remains on educating employers, co-workers, and the public about the importance of providing equal employment opportunities and removing barriers that prevent full inclusion. It also serves as a reminder that individuals with disabilities are a vital part of the labor force, capable of making meaningful contributions across various industries.
Please be aware that there is no school on October 14th.Ā Ā
Thank you for your continued support! Weāre looking forward to a fantastic October filled with learning, growth, and a little bit of Halloween fun. As always, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Warm regards,
Ms. Kae

Ā AUGUST
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the start of an exciting new school year in our RISE classroom! We are thrilled to have your child join us as we embark on a journey filled with growth, learning, and new experiences. This year, our theme is all about the strength, unity, and determination of a wolfpack, reflecting our commitment to working together to support each studentās unique path to success.
The first day of school is a special time, and we have a wonderful day planned to help students settle in and feel comfortable in their new environment. We will spend time getting to know each other, exploring our classroom, and establishing routines that will help us learn and grow throughout the year. Our focus will be on creating a welcoming atmosphere where every student feels valued and supported.
