Criteria for Membership & Graduation Cord

ASL Honor Society Requirements

  • Complete ASL 2 with GPA of 3.5 or above in all ASL work.

  • Have GPA of 3.2 or above in all classes.

  • Complete 5 service hours that benefit the Deaf community.

ASL Junior Honor Society Requirements

  • Complete highest level offered in middle school with an average grade of 85 or better in all ASL work.

  • Have an average grade of 80 or better in all classes.

Criteria for Medals

Laurent Clerc Medal for High School

  • Has studied ASL for at least 3 years

  • Has GPA of 3.7 or above in all ASL work

  • Has GPA of 3.5 or above in all classes

  • Completed 10+ community service hours that benefit the Deaf community

Andrew Foster Medal for Middle School

  • Complete highest level offered in middle school with an average grade of 85 or better in all ASL work

  • Has an average grade of 80 or better in all classes

  • Complete an ASL/Deaf studies project

ME SIGN WHY? LOVE DEAF COMMUNITY BEST COMMUNICATE CHOICE. ME LOVE MEET PEOPLE THROUGH SIGN. USE ASL SERVE BRING ME JOY.


I sign because I love the Deaf community, and it is the best way for me to communicate. I love the experiences that it has given me and the people that I have met through sign. Having the opportunity to use ASL to serve others brings me true joy.

Honor Society Pledge

As a student of ASL, I understand that language can be a powerful connection between peoples of different cultures and backgrounds, bringing them together.

Henceforth, I am proud to commit to being a steadfast ally of the Deaf community.

I pledge to encourage deaf and hearing peoples to come together in unity throughout the world.

Lastly, I will reflect the ideals of the American Sign Language Honor Society in scholarship, community service, and person excellence.
