Put this at the top of the plans you print out:
2nd-5th grades start with 15 minutes of keyboarding every week. When students first come in, have them open their Chromebooks and go to typing.com. Start a timer for 15 minutes. They pick up where they left off last time. Walk around and enforce home row position. Students should have their hands positioned like what is shown on their screen. Remind them that they are getting these keystrokes into their muscle memory. Go for accuracy, not speed.
Activities students can do independently on their Chromebooks
If you do not have Google Classroom set up for your classes, have the classroom teacher post these links for you. Students bring their Chromebooks to class, click on the links in Google Classroom and do one of these activities. Some have lesson plans you can print out. Visit ahead of time to see.

If you prefer that students not be on Chromebooks when you have a sub, prepare plans from the Unplugged Lessons page. You can email links the sub will need to the sub email address of your school. For example: nessub1@gccschools.com If you do not know the sub password for your school to be able to include it in the lesson plans, please email kkarnes@gccschools.com and Kim will reply with the sub password.
