Can you spare precious class time when there’s a whole semester’s worth of ground to cover? Well, partner, why not try a mini-project? Even just one day on the trail can leave a lasting mark on your students. In this here session, we’ll talk about how to run a rip-roarin’ project day—where students saddle up, blaze their own trails, and dive headfirst into the wilds of learning (with you as their trusty guide, of course)!
Brandon Cleworth, aka, Cowboy Cleworth Dr. Brandon Cleworth received his PhD in comparative religion from Arizona State University in 2012 and has taught at GCC as residential faculty since 2006. His research focuses on the intersections of violence, memory and culture in the literary and visual arts. He is the recipient of several teaching awards, including the 2011 NISOD Excellence in Teaching Award and the 2012 GCC Honors Program Faculty of the Year. His teaching philosophy focuses on building collaborative, authentic, and inclusive learning experiences for his students in an intellectually invigorating environment.
L. Alexander Patrick-Rolando, PhD aka, Curly Cottonmouth Cahootz is Residential Faculty in Social Sciences and serves as a Faculty Senator at GCC, working to ensure everyone can enjoy equitable access to education and safe and inclusive work environments. He enjoys challenging the status quo, not just in education, but in all he does to open minds and build respect and appreciation of difference, wherever he is in the world. Outside of the education world, Dr. Patrick-Rolando continues enjoying the world of the arts! He appreciates combining arts and education in every way and continues to work towards a shared value for the experiences of every being. Dr. Patrick-Rolando is thankful for his family and friends and all of the amazing and inspirational teachers, artists, and everyone that has supported and nurtured his talents.
Stacy Moreno, aka Cactus The Lucky Flapjack, has been an adjunct for the district since 2014, currently teaching social work classes at PVCC and EMCC. Stacy is also the new Student Services Manager at GCC. Stacy is a licensed masters level social worker with 25 years serving many areas of social work in our community, and with diverse populations and needs. Stacy considers herself a resource fanatic, but equally as passionate about diversity, global awareness and human rights. Stacy has also been developing professional development for civil society leaders around the world in collaboration with the Library of Congress for the past decade. Stacy is in the midst of her Doctoral program in social work and is designing an immersive faculty professional training program on “Internationalizing Social Work Education: The Borderlands and Migration
Justine Hecht, aka Saguaro Sunset, is a professor of at EMCC and a PhD student in Justice Studies at ASU. Their pedagogy is rooted in transfrmational learning that seeks to bridge the arbitrary divide between communities and the academy. Positioning students as knowledge producers themselves, Justine draws their pedagogical inspiration from the works of critical pedagogues such as Paulo Freire, Chandra Mohanty, bell hooks, Henry Giroux, and Jacqui Alexander.
