Week 1:
This week I had to decide on what music genre/song I would use for my music video. I had to take into account what footage I will be able to get for each idea I had. For example for 'Loop Digga' I would have to film in a record store which isn't guaranteed that I will be able to do, I would also have to get two actors that can remember the lines and deliver them at the pace of the song which I discovered would be difficult to do with the actors from my last project. With Sam's song I would be able to throw together some fast-cut-clips of him making the music/playing basketball or football and some cartoons etc.
In Production Practice I learnt how to use the picture-in-picture effect, this is shown in the development page where I posted a short video that I made with this effect to a similar song that Sam will produce for my final project. I think this effect works perfectly to this music genre and I learnt how to do it well.
This week I struggled with storyboarding and scripting. Scripting is not necessary in my project as the song (I believe) will be an instrumental. The story boarding part is difficult as I'm unsure in what order or effect I want to put them in. In order to overcome this problem I will attempt to draw some shots I want to film that I have in mind and maybe put some ideas down about a narrative for the video.
Week 2:
This week I filmed Sam at his house whilst he mixed some songs together on his DJ decks and he was making a track on Ableton with a midi keyboard, I liked the lighting in his room and the shots I got I think were quite good, I tried using lots of different camera angles, even filming him in portrait at times - just to try something new, I think a video of him using the Decks and a picture-in-picture portrait video of his head work work nicely as a POV sort of angle.
I am currently struggling with actually getting the song from Sam, he seems to be very busy at the moment and isn't able to send me the music that I will edit my clips to, there is not much I can do about this so I have tried to get ahead with written work instead. I am also collecting more 'stock footage' that I can use for the video and talking to Sam about what his favourite shows/films are so I can use them and make the video more personal for Sam instead of a random collection of clips joined together.
Week 3:
Sam has sent me the song today and I will begin edit by adding all the clips I filmed of him into a premiere pro project and also adding in the 'stock footage' as well, I used the song to create an audio visualiser and an audio waveform to add some depth to the video as it looked quite thin with just the clips I filmed and the silver surfer/la haine. This worked well with the picture-in-picture effect.
This week I struggled with the timings on the keying transition, either the keyframes would be too soon or the previous footage would still be in the background. I overcame this by rewatching the tutorial videos as well as tweaking each keyframe until I spotted what was going wrong, I realised I had zoomed in too fast each time and had to make the PNG clip last longer and have the keyframe last longer for the zoom
Week 4:
I went to Sam's show on the weekend and decided to take my camera to get some extra footage for the video, this was a good idea as it beefed out the end product a lot and helped me use more transitions and effects. This was fun as I got to see people react to his music for the first time and people were asking to be filmed and when the music video would be released. This week left me with my final product after many hours of editing, I am happy with what I have finished with and will proceed with the rest of the day by starting my evaluation.
