OVERVIEW
PBIS stands for "Positive Behavior Intervention Supports." It is a way of ensuring students have access to proactive and responsive supports within a tiered structure to organize level of need.
Tier 1 is the universal (what ALL students get) and should be sufficient for 80% or more of students
Tier 2 is the next level and should address identified needs for up to 20% of students
Tier 3 is the highest level and should be reserved for up to 5% of students
A link to the flowchart and step-by-step overview document identifying how to navigate our student support system can be found in the Tier 2/3 Handbook.
CICO is a Tier 2 intervention that identifies goals that coordinate with the school-wide expectations and does not need unique development for each participating student. It is a formal process that identifies specific school staff for teaching behavioral skills and collecting data. Students have regular opportunities to perform behavioral skills across multiple settings. The intervention uses data to adapt, modify and improve support with frequent communication with the family.
Mentoring is a sustained one-to-one relationship between a caring adult and child who needs support to achieve academic, career, social or personal goals.
Group interventions focus on skill development and coping strategies to promote healthy social and emotional development and prevent potential problems. Examples of skills targeted through group interventions include managing emotions, coping with stress, problem solving, and communicating effectively.
