Ready Room Process and Procedures
Purpose:
To support our students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs so that they can be more successful at school
To review and assist our students with problem-solving strategies using a reflective process
To allow staff to continue instruction when students need additional support
A student is not demonstrating expected behaviors in class:
Menu of corrective actions (three tries to fix it)
Must be posted in the room and three different strategies
Can be adjusted to meet the needs of students
Must be explicitly taught
Can include a conversation at the door or elsewhere
Ready Room Support
Send student to process and reset
If multiple students are involved in the situation or interrupting the learning at the same time, identify the student who is disrupting the learning environment the most and send them to the Ready Room.
Other students involved should be sent to the ready room when other students return. Hallway conversations with the teacher can also be used as a way to process and reset.
All students involved in interrupting the learning environment should receive a staff managed referral
Ready Room Process- If the 3 tries to fix the behavior were unsuccessful
Teacher calls the Welcome Desk to ask for ready room support. The teacher will call 34808 and ask for one of the following options.
Universal Support (reg. ed) to Room __________ for __________ (student name), Grade __.
Individual Support (spec. ed) to Room __________ for __________ (student name), Grade __.
Teacher will complete the Ready Room Form (yellow, can be found in the main office) and hand the form to the escort.
Teacher should give a quick 30 second summary of the information on the form to the monitor with the student present.
Students should wait in their assigned seat, directly within the classroom door, or directly outside the classroom door (least preferred option) for the escort to arrive.
Students will process in the ready room to be ready to return to class.
Students may take two five-minute breaks to reset while in the ready room before processing with an adult.
Ready to return means physically, emotionally, and behaviorally ready to follow classroom expectations and engage in the learning.
Teacher will enter staff managed referral in IC.
Student returns to class, the teacher welcomes the student back.
Monitor, student and teacher will have a quick conversation regarding the ready room process and how the student is ready to learn before the student returns to class.
An apology or review of the disruptive behaviors will not be part of that conversation.
If a student is not ready to return to class after the Ready Room process is completed OR is sent to the Ready Room at the end of the hour, further support may be given and teachers will be emailed by the Ready Room supervisor
Student will return to class the next day
Teacher welcome student back to class
Incident documented as staff-managed in IC by the teacher
If a student refuses to complete the RR process or behavior escalates, the Ready Room supervisor will email the teacher to let them know the RR visit turned into an admin-required event.
The teacher will write an admin-required referral
Admin will add necessary details to the referral
Ready Room Pattern of Behavior
Ready Room visits will be tracked by the ready room supervisor.
On the third or more visit in one day by one student, student services, SLA (if appropriate), or manager of student engagement (if appropriate) will be notified by the ready room supervisor, monitor, or welcome desk to complete the ready room process with the student.
Student services will complete the ready room form and escort the student back to class or notify the teacher.
Three or more visits from the same teacher in a two-week period will lead to a planned discussion with the student and teacher.
Ready Room supervisor will email the teacher and grade level counselor when the data rule is met.
Student services or a behavior support teacher will be available to support the planned discussion if requested by the teacher.
The student may also be discussed at a grade level meeting to complete a team brainstorming on strategies and supports.
The planned discussion will be documented in Panorama by the teacher.
Students developing a pattern of RR visits, such as five visits from multiple teachers in a two week period, should be added to the grade level concern form and discussed at grade level to determine next steps (i.e. planned discussion, parent meeting).
The grade level counselor will monitor the data and add the student to the grade level concern form.
Ready Room supervisor will also communicate with grade level counselors when the data rule is met.
Any parent meeting can be virtual or in person.
When additional steps have been attempted, students may be moved forward to the MLSS tier 2 meeting.
Students who demonstrate a pattern of being unsuccessful in the ready room process will be placed on the MLSS agenda for a tier 2 intervention such as a strategy group for skill development.
