Ms. Hackett grew up on a grain and livestock farm in central Illinois. She was active in FFA in high school, showed Hereford cattle, attended the University of Illinois and competed on the U of I Livestock Judging Team. She obtained a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, a minor in Ag Economics and Law, and a Master's in Ag Education. She became a teacher to help high school students find their passions and to be a supporter in young people's lives.
