Shelter

The environment had a big effect on the Native Californians’ shelters. For example, the desert Shoshone had easy to remove houses because they moved a lot to find water and because it is very hot in the desert. The Maidu, who lived in the mountains, built houses that were partially under the ground so on cold nights it would hold warmth. The people of the coast, such as the Ohlone, depended on natural resources they could get easily. For example, the coastal people used local trees such as redwood to build plank houses; some housed could fit between 40 to 50 people. The Coastal Miwok made homes from willow branches that were dome shaped and covered with earth. In conclusion the environment affected pretty much everything.
