Housing insecurity creates many problems for families, including having to rehome their pet due to housing restrictions. When a family calls in these situations, we first offer to speak with the landlord on their behalf. If we cannot intake the animal right away, we can provide a Landlord Letter (below) explaining our intake process to buy families and our organization more time to prepare. At times, we can also pay pet deposits and fees if the landlord is open to negotiating.
Over the past few years, we have provided temporary housing for a few cases within the Metro East St. Louis area. Most of these situations have to do with housing instability while families are in transition. We created the documentation and contracts below to support this programming. This is not advertised, but we provide it as a last resort utilizing foster homes if resources are available.
SOP to be used in cases requiring temporary housing.
Animal profile to be shared with foster family or shelter staff providing more details about each pet.
Contract detailing timeline and expectations for temporary housing arrangement.
To be completed for each pet allowing organization to provide basic intake vetting and preventatives.
To be completed for each pet allowing spay/neuter surgery while in organization's care.
To be completed at the time pet(s) return home to their owners at the end of the agreed upon timeframe.
