Town Hall - January 3, 2022 - Addressing parents questions and discussing school safety protocols as we return after the holiday

September 3, 2021

Dear Falcon Families:

Let me extend a heartfelt welcome to our new and returning Gateway Intermediate School 364 FALCONS. I hope that you had an enjoyable, relaxing, and safe summer. We are excited to see our FALCONS on Monday, September 13, 2021! Enclosed you will find information about your child’s class placement for the 2021-2022 school year. Classes that end with an F are located in the Freeport Academy Building. Classes that end with a G are located in the Geneva Academy Building. Please note that class placements are not permanent and are subject to change.

Your child has been assigned to official class 000 for the 2021-2022 school year and should report to the following designated entrance: School Yard Entrance.

Students should report to their designated building on the first day of school on Monday, September 13, 2021. To ensure a safe and welcoming environment, Falcons should report to their designated entrance. The official school day will consist of a 6 hour and 20-minute schedule for all students beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 2:20 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Students are expected to be punctual and to report to school dressed in the appropriate school attire. Students are not permitted to change out of their school uniforms before leaving the school building at the end of the school day. The dress code is as follows:

White or gray collared shirts (Polo shirts or dress shirts are acceptable). Navy blue or black bottoms. Black or white shoes or sneakers with rubber soles. Navy blue or white sweaters or sweater vests may be worn in the fall and winter.

Jeans/denim, stretch jeans, leggings, jeggings, tights, non 364 hooded sweatshirts/“hoodies”, T-shirts, basketball shorts, track pants, sweat/track pants with stripes, and hats are not part of our Uniform Dress Code Policy and are therefore unacceptable and not permitted.

Students may elect to wear a gray T-Shirt and Navy blue or Black Sweatpants on a physical education day.

Uniforms may be purchased by clicking on the QR code at the bottom of this letter

Please be reminded of the following, which were sent out in previous mailings:

The DOE is moving towards a centralized system for on-line instruction. This will allow students more access to DOE systems such as Zoom and Teams. As a result, students need to access their DOE account ID and Passwords. Where do students find their account ID and password?

To retrieve your account ID and password:

1. Go to Student Account Self Service https://selfservice.schools.nyc/

2. Enter your 9-digit Student ID number. (You can find your Student ID number on a report card, your student ID card, or in your NYCSA account.)

3. Enter your birthday.

4. Click Continue.

5. If the information you enter matches your student record, your username will be displayed.

6. Your student ID is your username followed by @nycstudents.net. For example, if your username is JaneD, your student account ID is JaneD@nycstudents.net. How do students access Google Classroom?

For all students to gain access to their Grade level Google Classroom please go to Google Classroom and signup for access for your grade using the following codes:

Grade 6: https://classroom.google.com/c/MzcwNjE0MDYxMjQ0?cjc=bh5gmtl

Grade 7: https://classroom.google.com/c/MzcwNjE0MDYwMzE4?cjc=amuntvl

Many parents have inquired about the Pin that is being requested when they use the self service system. We have reached out to central to determine what is required in this field. We have been informed that students should have received their pins and this information is not at the school. If you already have a nycstudent account, you do not need to reset your password. We will work to ensure that all student accounts are operational on the first day of school. If you are having difficulty accessing the account, feel free to contact Educator Collins at jcollins24@schools.nyc.gov

Lastly, we are requesting the following essential supplies:

Headphones with a Mic, Pencils, Erasers, Pens, Ruler, Markers, Crayons, Highlighters, Composition Notebook, Binder with Loose-leaf paper, Scissors, Glue, Flash Drive.

Students may elect to bring in their IPad for instruction; however, we will have computers for students to use while in the building each day. If you are in need of a school IPad or have a defective device, please reach out to us so that we may assist you with receiving or repairing the device.

Students are required to wear mask at all times while in the building. The health screening should also be completed prior to student arrival each day. https://healthscreening.schools.nyc/

As always, thank you for your continued support of all our endeavors.

Sincerely,

Gateway Leadership Team
