About

Down below is a brief description of Ms. Abby and her rules and procedures for art class.

About Ms. Abby

My name is Abigail McLaurin (or Ms. Abby), and I am the art teacher for Ida Rankin and Pinewood Elementary schools in Gaston county, North Carolina. I am a Carolinian who comes from a long line of public school teachers. Both my parents are teachers, and watching them inspired me to pursue education. After receiving my BA in Fine Arts from Coker College in Hartsville, SC, I worked as an artist and private tutor for seven years before pursuing teaching full-time. I continue to exhibit work and have showcased art across the United States. Bringing this experience into the classroom, my goal is to inspire students to think more progressively about the arts and their capabilities. A student is only as talented as they perceive themselves to be. Therefore, it's important that students leave any self-deprecating and negative thoughts at home and bring an open and positive mind to my classroom.

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he (or she) grows up.”

― Pablo Picasso

Rules and Procedures for Art Class

This is a slideshow of my rules and procedures for art class that I review every year with students. I am a stern teacher because it is important to maintain a safe learning environment for all my students.

Behavior Reflection Letter

Behavior Reflection Letter

Students who make poor choices in art class are required to fill out a reflection letter addressed to their guardians. This letter is a means of reinforcing my behavioral expectations of the class and should come back filled out and signed.
