Why? To experience college and one of our nation’s best institutions--from staying in a dorm, to learning from professors, to meeting other students from across the state
How? Students Must apply by February 28th, 2020
The Jamie Kimble Foundation for Courage is partnering with Mecklenburg County, Carowinds, Arts & Science Council and Turning Point Services Inc. to provide a comprehensive educational curriculum to reinforce the development of healthy and respectful dating relationships. Our first-ever Teens for Courage will be held on February 1, 2020 at Carowinds. This is a free event for High School students. Registration is required and limited to 500 students. Participants will:
* Network with students from High Schools in Charlotte-Mecklenburg and surrounding counties
* Learn how to start a Courage Club
* Create a logo and activities for your club for the entire year
Morning refreshments and lunch will be served to all attendees. Six hours of volunteer credit will be awarded to all participants. Seats limited to 500 students. Register early!

What? The James S. Forrester Commissioners’ School of Excellence is a two-week summer residential experience that challenges selected participants to better understand themselves, life in Gaston County, and their roles as future leaders. Through seminars, problem-solving activities, simulation, field trips to visit community leaders, guest speakers, and “hands-on” experiences, students examine issues relevant to their future and the future of Gaston County
Who? Any ninth grade student that resides in Gaston county is eligible to apply for the Commissioners’ School of Excellence.
When? Students will report to Belmont Abbey College to begin Commissioners’ School on Sunday afternoon, June 16th. They will remain on campus until Friday afternoon, June 21st. After the weekend at home, students will return Sunday evening, June 23rd and remain until June 27th.
How? Students who are interested should see Ms. MacDonald in Student Services
