Future Health Professionals
The purpose of the HOSA organization is to develop leadership and technical HOSA skill competencies through a program of motivation, awareness and recognition, which is an integral part of the Health Science Education instructional program.
The mission of HOSA is to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science education students, therefore, helping the student meet the needs of the health care community.
The goals that HOSA believes are vital to each member are:
To promote physical, mental and social well being.
To develop effective leadership qualities and skills.
To develop the ability to communicate more effectively with people.
To develop character.
To develop responsible citizenship traits.
To understand the importance of pleasing oneself as well as being of service to others.
To build self-confidence and pride in one's work.
To make realistic career choices and seek successful employment in the health care field.
To develop an understanding of the importance in interacting and cooperating with other students and organizations.
To encourage individual and group achievement.
To develop an understanding of current health care issues, environmental concerns, and survival needs of the community, the nation and the world.
To encourage involvement in local, state and national health care and education projects.
To support Health Science Education instructional objectives.

Spreading the Love
Highland School of Technology had several HOSA officers visit Rosewood Assisting Living in Gastonia, NC on Thursday, February 4, 2016. The visit was to share some love by delivering Valentines care packages which included toiletries to the residents. Highland’s HOSA was grateful for the opportunity and the resident and staff of Rosewood were appreciative!
District 6 Regional Competition
HOSA: Future Health Professionals from Highland School of Technology competed at the District 6 Regional HOSA competition held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Hickory Ridge High School in Harrisburg N.C Regionals included high school students from surrounding counties competing in 17 different health care events. All eighteen students from Highland placed in the top ten in their events. The top performers advance to the HOSA State Leadership Conference to be held on March 31-April 2 in Greensboro, NC.
Holy Angels “The Haunted Greenhouse”
Highland’s HOSA Future Health Professionals recently provided a helping hand to Holy Angels in Belmont, NC. The staff at Holy Angels have a yearly goal to provide the residents with a fun Halloween party. The theme of the party was The Haunted Cafe´. HOSA volunteered in a two-day service event, decorating the greenhouse on the first day and enjoying the party with the residents on Thursday. Highland’s HOSA has participated in this annual Halloween Party for over four years.

HOSA WEEK November 2-6, 2015
Highland’s HOSA celebrated National HOSA week from November 2- 6 with various themes each day. Monday the club officers and members handed out temporary HOSA tattoos to students. Tuesday students wore scrubs in the spirit of health care workers. HOSA officers also delivered cookies and certificates of appreciation to local health care professionals who have supported the school’s medical pathways and programs. Wednesday was the HOSA general meeting; Robin Shaw from the Leukemia Lymphoma Society of Charlotte, NC, visited the school and informed HOSA members about the works of LLS. Furthermore, Wednesday was overall spirit day. Thursday was Buffalo Wild Wings night where ten percentage of all sales went to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. The week was successful because members were able to show off HOSA pride and make a difference in the school and community.
HOSA Officers District 6 Fall Leadership
On October 8, 2015, the Highland School of Technology HOSA Chapter participated in the District 6 Fall Leadership training in Huntersville, NC at Rural Hill Corn Maze. The leadership training provided team building and leadership strategies to HOSA officers from across the District 6 chapters. Chapters from Gaston County and other surrounding counties were represented. Six officers and one academy coordinator attended the training from Highland.
