Asian music refers to the musical styles developed in East Asia (from Japan to Mongolia), Southeast Asia (from Philippines to Burma), South Asia (from Nepal to Sri Lanka), and Central Asia (from Khazakstan to Afghanistan). It is incredibly diverse but if you listen closely, you can hear the connections.

AFRICAN & MIDDLE EASTERN MUSIC

Although most Middle Eastern countries are technically part of Asia, their musical connection to Africa is so deep that we will explore their music together.

EUROPEAN MUSIC

European music refers to music from Europe and West Russia. It is the most influential and theoretically developed in the world and has penetrated all cultures. However, the roots of European music are very raw, as you can see from some of the videos below.

AmERICAN MUSIC

American music refers to music from North America, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America. It is very rich and diverse because of its many cultural influences.

Since the rise of mass media in the 20th century, globalization has caused all kinds of cultural fusions and music has been likewise affected. It has become more and more difficult to distinguish cultural separation in music, as we all learn to communicate at a global level. How exciting is this?!
