8th Grade- High School Course Selections

When signing up for your high school courses in the spring, consider the following course descriptions. ALL STUDENTS MUST START WITH INTRO TO ART!

Course Descriptions:

Intro to Art: [1 semester] Art 1 introduces students to the fundamentals of art. Basic elements and principles of design are presented and applied through many different 2d art mediums. An emphasis will be placed on drawing, analysis of space and form as well as learning control of various art mediums. Students will learn to draw from life and individual thought and creativity will be stressed. Art 1 is a prerequisite for all other art courses. We will also introduce art history at different times throughout the class as well. (required before taking any other studio art course)

2D-1: [1 semester] 2d Design utilizes the skills and media introduced in art 1. A greater emphasis will be placed on developing original ideas and technical skills. Many of the mediums used in art 1 will be repeated along with the introduction of new medias. In addition to classroom projects students will be required to complete sketchbook drawings as homework.

3D-1: [1 semester] The elements and principles of design will be explored in sculptural forms. Students will build sculptures in both the additive and subtractive methods. Clay will be the medium used most, but students will also be introduced to other sculptural materials.

Art Appreciation: [1 semester]
