Music Activities

Music ensembles in the activities and service programme foster well-rounded musicians. Students develop greater musicianship when rehearsing and performing with others.

Playing in an ensemble consolidates, develops and enhances the learning (the skills, knowledge and understanding) begun in ITP lessons and practice. It broadens the learning experience in significant ways, both musical, and non-musical. Playing in an ensemble develops and enhances one’s learning about practice, rehearsal, group work, performance, listening and teamwork. It strengthens bonds and forges meaningful and lasting relationships. Students learn how to rehearse, practise and perform better, and they work collaboratively towards common goals with purpose and through expert guidance. They experience the thrill and excitement of large scale public performance and they contribute to the greater good of the school community.
Our mission states: the UWCSEA East Music department values all kinds of music and music makers that contribute to making education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. Ensembles and Service provide opportunities for students to do just this, while developing the qualities and skills we value most at UWCSEA. We urge all students learning through the ITP programme to join an ensemble or service, so that they may develop their skills and qualities while working towards the mission.
