Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 serves as the hosting agency for the Schuylkill County Safe School Coalition (Schuylkill County SSC). The Schuylkill County SSC is an initiative that originated through the leadership of the Schuylkill County Board of Commissioners. The Coalition was established through a resolution by the request of the Schuylkill County Emergency Management Agency (SCEMA) and unanimously adopted by the Schuylkill County Board of Commissioners on December 13, 2006.
The Board action established the Schuylkill County Safe School Coalition and membership in order to create effective solutions to problems that disrupt the education process and affect school safety. The SSC includes a group of diversified members joining together in the effort to support the development and implementation of a comprehensive safe schools initiative for Schuylkill County school districts, including private and non-public schools.
