Your child has entered the first of the three intermediate grades.  They are now ready to be active learners through the core subject areas, but at a more independent level.  We will work on creating a classroom community using these expectations:  be respectful, be responsible, be a friend, and be safe.  Reading becomes so important at this level.  The students should have developed word recognition strategies, and be moving on to the monitoring of their own reading comprehension across the curriculum subjects.  Multiplication and division become the focus of Math operations. The students enjoy the interaction with materials, other students, and the teacher as they try new ways to solve problems. They become involved in explaining to the class their new learned life skill.
