Members who join online (“eMembers”) are members of the Knights of Columbus who have not yet taken part in the Exemplification of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity and have not yet been admitted to a local council.
As an eMember, like all members of the Knights of Columbus, you will receive Columbia magazine. You will also have the right to purchase insurance on yourself, your spouse and any dependent children.

Council-based membership is the best way to experience the Knights of Columbus.
Candidates take part in the Exemplification of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity which explains the Knights of Columbus and our core principles. After this combined degree, a candidate is considered a 3rd Degree Knight and is eligible to participate fully in the council's programs and activities (including voting and holding a leadership position).
All priests and religious brothers having duly made application for membership and participated in the ceremonials become honorary life members of the Order and are exempt from payment of dues.
As a Knight, you can choose the programs and activities with which you wish to be involved in within your parish community. Your participation in the Knights of Columbus can ebb and flow with your season of life— the Order is dedicated to family life and the many benefits it offers. Whether you are interested in service, charity, insurance, or social activities and programs, all are open to the whole family.
Membership requirements are that you be a practical Catholic gentleman, who is 18 years of age or older. Additional expectations for Atlanta Council 660 are that you will keep up with council dues ($50/year) and be Virtus Trained.

A practical Catholic gives material and moral support to the Church and her works on all levels, promoting the programs of the parish and diocese and coming to the aid of the missions, the needy and the under privileged; supports and advances the just causes of minority groups; endeavors to eliminate unjust discrimination, prejudice, etc.; and supports the Church in her defense of marriage and family life.
There are four degrees within the Knights of Columbus representing the Order's core virtues of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. As of July 1st, 2020, the individual Admission, Formation and Knighthood Degrees (a.k.a. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degrees) were merged into the new Exemplification of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity (CUF).
The primary purpose of the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus is to encourage active Catholic citizenship and foster the spirit of patriotism in its members and the community at large.
No. Unlike many fraternal organizations, one does not become a member by purchasing insurance. In the Knights of Columbus, a man has to be a member before he may avail himself of the insurance benefit. Purchasing insurance is optional, however; the life insurance and long-term care insurance products offered by the Order are not only competitively priced, they are among the most solid and highly rated products available anywhere. Standard & Poor's and A.M. Best, the leading independent agencies that rate insurance companies, give K of C insurance their highest ratings.
