Mentor Program: Statement of Purpose
ESBOCES Mentor Program is dedicated to the support of a highly professional network of personnel. It aims to promote the personal and professional growth and development of administrators, teachers and support staff throughout the district.
What is Mentoring?
Mentoring is a person-to-person experience that is a confidential, non-judgmental process which ensures novice teachers and/or support staff receive support and guidance on effective teaching and learning practices based on state, district and school needs. Mentoring motivates the novice and the mentor. It helps to retain our newest professionals within education, as well as build themselves up into new positions. Mentoring builds expertise and promotes professional responsibility from the educational community

Provides a set of clear expectations of the roles and responsibilities of teachers and paras within the classroom
For a mentoring relationship to develop, both the mentor and mentee must feel that discussions of private issues or problems are being handled with discretion. It is expected that all mentors are to keep all interactions with Mentees confidential at all times, except where an incident arises that may be a health and safety risk. Confidentiality is not unbending and never absolute. A mentor or a mentee may at some point find themselves in a position where maintaining confidentiality doesn’t reflect ethical behavior, does nothing to foster a sense of trust and is itself a roadblock to productivity.
