Hello Readers!
Welcome to the May issue of our secondary school library newsletter. As another academic year draws to a close, it’s amazing how quickly time has flown by. With summer break just around the corner, it’s a great time to reflect on the past year.Â
What meaningful experiences did you have? What challenges did you overcome? Reflecting on these questions can help us grow and prepare for an even better year ahead.Â
During this busy period, many students are immersed in their end-of-year projects and exams. For our senior students, it's an especially significant time as they complete their final exams and prepare to graduate.Â
Let’s make the most of these last few weeks, and continue to support each other as we finish strong!
Warm regards,
Hannah Lee, Grade 11
As the end of the term approaches, many students find themselves juggling exams, projects, and the pressures that come with them. To help navigate this stressful period, we sat down with our school counselor, Ms. Catherine Sciolis, for an insightful interview on effective stress management strategies.
In this interview, Ms. Sciolis shares practical tips on how to stay organized, maintain a healthy study-life balance, and cope with anxiety. She emphasizes the importance of self-care, time management, and seeking support when needed. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed or just looking for ways to optimize your study habits, Ms. Sciolis offers valuable advice to help you succeed without burning out.
For those who want more personalized guidance, Ms. Sciolis is available for individual consultations. You can reach her at her office or contact her via email at c.sciolis_gaa@gemsedu.com. Don’t hesitate to reach out—support is just a conversation away.Â

In an era where artificial intelligence is increasingly integrated into daily life, its impact on education has become a hot topic. The recent YouTube video by Vox, "AI Can Do Your Homework. Now What?", sheds light on the growing use of AI tools like ChatGPT among students. As these technologies offer new ways to tackle assignments and research, they also raise critical questions about academic integrity. How can educators ensure that students use AI responsibly, and what are the implications for honest learning and evaluation? This discussion is more relevant than ever as schools navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by AI advancements.

GAA Secondary celebrated the incredible poetic talents of our middle and high school students through the Poetry Slam! It all began with the inspiring visit of Project Voice in February, where we witnessed the enchanting performances by Sara and Phil. Following that, our dedicated English teachers guided the students through poetry units. To conclude, we had the pleasure of witnessing the fruits of the students' labor through the Poetry Slam in the library in March for middle school students and on May 1st for high school students. We are immensely proud of each and every one of our students' poetry creations! More photos and videos here!
We love how busy the library is this month!
