We were privileged to host two special guests, Sarah and Phil of Project Voice, who graced us with their spoken poetry performances for middle and high school students. The event was filled with the enchantment of words and the power of spoken poetry, creating an unforgettable experience of artistic expression and connection. Additionally, a PD workshop was conducted by the poets for the English department, who greatly enjoyed learning about poetry lessons and engaging classroom activities.

I, Hannah Lee, have initiated a reading competition aimed at fostering a love for reading and enhancing students' reading proficiency. The contest is designed to help participants explore their literary interests and improve their overall comprehension. The questions will delve into book details, such as character names and locations. The winner, who answers all questions correctly, will be rewarded with a 150-dirham Kinokuniya gift card, acknowledging their exceptional comprehension skills. My purpose is to inspire students to embrace reading, with plans for a high school event next year. This competition aims to create a competitive learning environment, motivating students to surpass their academic boundaries.

The city of Al Ain, located in the United Arab Emirates, recently experienced a rare meteorological phenomenon in the form of a hailstorm. This was the first hailstorm the city had seen in over a decade. The hailstorm occurred on a day when temperatures dropped to 7.6 degrees Celsius, resulting in over 6.4 inches of rainfall. The hailfall was the highest ever recorded in the country.
Initially, the residents of Al Ain were surprised and delighted by the hailstorm but soon faced its aftermath as it caused significant damage to buildings and vehicles. This led to disruptions in electricity and water supply. Despite the challenges, the community came together to address immediate concerns. Insurance companies offered coverage for damages, and municipal services worked tirelessly to restore essential utilities and free trapped vehicles.
The event highlighted the resilience and solidarity of the residents in the face of unexpected natural phenomena. While the hailstorm caused disruption, its legacy is seen in the stories of human adaptation and unity, emphasizing the unpredictable power of nature and the ability of communities to come together in the face of adversity.
