Non-COVID-related: If your child develops any symptoms during school hours:
The student will be flagged by the teacher and will be referred to the school clinic for triage. If child does not have fever or any other COVID-19 symptoms, Nurse will contact the parent to investigate any possible illness at home by family member. Depending on the condition of the child, parent may be asked to collect from school.
If student is sent home, parent must provide doctor's medical certificate for return to campus.
COVID-related: Your child will be considered as a suspected case of Covid-19, if displaying any signs and symptoms such as cough, fever or breathlessness and:
Child will be moved to Quarantine Room, where they will be monitored by a School Nurse.
Nurse will contact the parents immediately to retrieve the child from the school.
The school shall not administer any medicines to the child.
The school will inform the parents about the nearest hospital and COVID-19 testing center.
If the child tests positive for COVID-19, parents are mandated to inform the school so that they can take measures to secure the health of other students and staff who may have been exposed to the virus.
If child has siblings at GAA attending in-campus, they must be quarantined at home as well.
Student(s) will be able to return to school after 2 consecutive negative COVID tests and doctor's medical certificate.
We remind parents of our safety protocols with regards to COVID-19:
Notify school immediately by calling GAA's COVID-19 Hotline at 052 1048099 to enable us to activate appropriate response. Or email: pre_gaa@gemsedu.com
Keep your child and other GAA siblings isolated at home for at least 10 days and follow the instructions of Health Authorities.
Distance Learning will be enabled for your child.
Child will be cleared to return to school once they have 2 consecutive negative test results, submitting doctor's note and results to the school nurse.
Positive case: They must show a Clearance Report from SEHA or their Health Care Provider confirming they are clear to return to school. This report shows the high-level history of the case including date confirmed positive, the 2 negative results and that the patient has completed the isolation period.
Contacts of the positive case: contacts must continue their 10 day home quarantine, even if they test negative, and are only allowed back in school after receiving 2 consecutive negative test results (approximately day 1 and day 8 testing).
We thank you for your continuous support.
It is very common for parents to find that their children are reluctant to speak in detail about their experiences of their day at school. As children develop it is important for them to maintain a certain sense of individual ownership of their time at school. The trick is to ask about things that are specific, but still open-ended. Move beyond questions that can be answered with, "fine" and "nothing", by asking your children to describe her world. It's also great to start the conversation by sharing an anecdote from your own day. Instead of simply asking ‘how was school today?’ it can help students to engage in conversation by asking some more specific, thought provoking questions such as the ones below;
Tell me about the best part of your day.
What was the hardest/easiest thing you had to do today?
Did anything funny happen today?
Tell me about something you read/watched/talked about in class today.
Who did you play with today? What did you play?
Tell me about something interesting your teacher did/said today.
What is different from last week to this week, what might you do next week?
What rules are different at school than our rules at home? Do you think they're fair?
Is there anything you would have done differently today?
Can you show me something you learned (or did) today?

We are having lots of fun learning and exploring in grade 1C! We started inquiring into our new Unit of Inquiry: How We Organize Ourselves. In this unit, we are learning all about communities. We began by creating maps to show our understanding of people and places in our community. The students have been busy since then inquiring into why we live in communities and the various important roles and jobs that are needed in a community. We soon will start to learn how the members of communities all depend on each other. Take a look to see the students aspire to be in the future in their community!
In grade 4B we have just started our 5th unit of inquiry, How the world works! In this broad and exciting unit, the children will be engaging in an inquiry into the natural world. We will be learning about a number of interesting topics such as how plants and animals have adapted to suit their environment. We will examine the process of natural selection and how it causes living things to change over generations. We will also be introducing the children to the concept of biomimicry, which is how humans solve problems and invent things using ideas from nature. To begin this unit we are looking at what living things need in order to survive, and experimenting by growing seeds under different conditions to see how light, water and other variables impact on their growth cycle.
Grades 3-5 students have been enjoying the change of scenery by getting out of their classrooms and participating in various activities both outdoors and indoors during PE. The students have been focusing on skill development in a variety of activities that incorporate a racquet or ball. This year, our focus in PE has been to get up and move! It is always the highlight of their day to step away from their desk and move a bit more freely in open spaces.

Our first ever mini-Model United Nations Conference at GAA was a seed of an idea just three short weeks ago, born out of a conversation around the powerful question: How might we continue creating engaging learning opportunities for grade 5 students at GAA? Thank you, Mr. Vice for that conversation!
Since then, a group of ten students across grade 5 have committed lunchtimes and after school hours to finding out about the MUN (a club usually reserved for grade 6 to 12 students), significant environmental issues facing representative countries, writing position papers, and acting as delegates for their chosen countries at the virtual MUN Conference held on March 17th and 18th - with the final goal of creating a united vision and resolution to combat environmental issues across the globe.
This process was facilitated by GAA grade 11 and 12 MUN Club Members, with a special mention to Siddharth Guntreddy. Thank you, Sid!
This has been an impactful learning experience for us all! Here are some key word reflections shared by the Grade 5 MUN Club Members after the Conference:
“Professional”
“Presenting”
“Fun”
“Less Nervous”
“Surprised ourselves”
“Confident”
“Ready, prepared, knowledgeable”
“Collaboration”
“Proud”
“Cooperation”
“Perspectives”
Thank you for the opportunity to learn alongside you, grade 5’s!

We can all agree that this year is very unique and our lives are very different than before.
The 2020/2021 yearbook will have a very personal feel to it and will capture the craziness of this school year.
Due to safety restrictions and considering that number of our students are still on full distance learning, we will not have Stu Williamson take student formal photos at school this year. In case things change, we may schedule the photoshoot for March 2021.
This is where we need our Parents and Students' help:
For KG/Elementary, we ask that parents send a recent picture of their child doing anything they like, eating, playing, exercising... clear face and good lighting.
For MS/HS, we ask that students send us a selfie, that can be funny but appropriate.
Homeroom and advisory teachers will reach out to their students/parents shortly with details. We hope to get the photos before the Winter Break.
Let's make a delicious lemonade out of the lemons, so generously given by 2020!
March 25 - Spirit Week Dress Down Day. Half-day: school dismisses at 12:00.
March 25 - Elementary Zoomsical "The Big One-Oh" @6:00pm Youtube
March 28 - April 13 - Spring Break
