June 10, 2022 Issue (next issue on July 1, 2022)
Dear GAA Family,
We are rapidly approaching the end of the school year! Students have completed their end of year assessments and teachers are beginning their final units of the year. During the last weeks of school, we will continue to offer high quality instruction through enrichment activities and review of standards that will serve as the foundation for next school year. Some classes will also offer summer assignments. If your student receives a summer assignment, please review it with them and support them in completion throughout the summer.
We do expect students to attend classes during these final weeks. Online learning is only an option in the event of Covid or medical necessity, so we will not approve distance learning for travel. If you will be traveling, please inform us so we can inform teachers, but absences will be recorded.
In the upcoming weeks, we will also be hosting student recognition events to include the grade 8 promotion and high school awards ceremonies. Stay tuned for further details!
Regards,
Erin Lumpkins
High School Vice Principal
Dear 8th Grade Parents,
The Grade 8 team has been working hard to put together a promotion ceremony in honor of your son/daughter. It will be held on Thursday, June 23rd from 11:00-12:00 PM (this may go longer than the expected time). The promotion ceremony will take place in the GAA Auditorium. During the ceremony we will announce each student and hand out certificates of completion. Directly after the ceremony the Grade 8 students will be invited to a celebration in the gym until approximately 1:30pm. Food and drinks will be provided for Grade 8 students. Family members are welcome to attend the ceremony in the auditorium. The celebration in the gym is for Grade 8 students only.
Upon completion of the celebration in the gym at 1:30pm, grade 8 students are dismissed for the day. If you plan to wait for your child to take them home at 1:30pm, we ask that you wait in the parent cafe on the ground floor and not in the gym with the students. If you will take your child at the end of the Promotion ceremony, please make sure to sign them out. Students are expected to start the day at normal time as they will have regular classes up until the promotion.
The dress code for the ceremony is smart casual. Boys should wear appropriate local attire or a nice shirt and tie, a jacket is optional. Girls can wear a dress or local attire that is respectful of the event and local culture. This means no spaghetti strap dresses, shoulders should be covered, and dress length at the knee. There is no expectation that students purchase new clothes for the promotion ceremony. Students may come to school in their promotional attire. School uniform is not required on this day. We ask that a maximum of two family members per student are allowed for auditorium capacity.
Also, you will need to show your Green Al Hosn to enter as per school entry requirements.
We are looking forward to celebrating your child’s success with you. Thank you very much for your support this year, and especially with this event.
Sincerely,
Scott Macdonald
Middle School Vice Principal
Dear GAA Community,
Over the school year, in our Grade 7 Physical Education classes, students continue to maintain their fitness status by demonstrating in each PE unit their running goal and reflect on their performance.
In the last month all students were giving the opportunity to show their best score. What is your best run score?
Please congratulate all winners from Grade 7 with the best results over 120 students.
